I would like to know if I am qualified for an American Express Card, based on the fact that I was discharged from bankruptcy some 12 years ago.
Does anyone know about American Express Internal Standard? How long they keep a negative record in thir files? I have a very good credit right now, and my Credit Report is also clear. Thank you.

Mike,

I am not sure about AmEx's internal approval guidelines (maybe someone else can shed some light on this), but I don't think you would have any problem at least being approved for the secured Optima card. Please be advised, though, that this card does NOT report to the major credit bureaus (you can find more info. regarding this card on thd "Poor Credit" section of our site). If you use the secured Optima card responsibly, then AmEx will consider granting you unsecured status after 12 months.

Hope this helps!

Regards,
