Post subject: Ever Heard of USA Credit?
Hi. I am concerned because I got a phone call tonight with someone telling me I had applied online for an unsecured credit line. I kept telling them that I wouldn’t be accepted for more credit, but they said I was already approved, they just needed information. They said they were “USA Credit”. They asked a lot of questions, including my bank name, my routing #, and all the other personal info like, SS#, date of birth, etc. Then they said they were transferring me to someone who would set up my account and give me my new account #. A recording came on that said I needed to hold; after a while it said my hold time would be 8 minutes. After a few more minutes, the line disconnected. No one ever called back, and I didn’t have any idea how to contact them. I came online and went to usacredit.com, hoping that would be their website. It said the website was found, but was one of those messages that said either reload or try to access the site at a later time. I am now panicking because I gave out so much personal information over the phone. No one, not ever, has ever asked for my bank routing # before. Have you heard of USA Credit? Do they exist? What should I do now? Thank you.

Don’t trust telemarketers. At least don’t give them information until you’ve checked them out. I haven’t heard of USA Credit but it sounds suspect. Billions of dollars are lost each year to telemarketing scams - many in Canada selling fake credit cards. Typically people find debits for anywhere from $89.00 to $289.00 on their checking account statements. Assuming this is a scam, I would contact the bank first thing tomorrow morning and close the account. Have it reissued or perhaps the bank could recommend a less drastic course of action. Or you can wait until they withdraw money and then dispute the unauthorized debit. Eyeoncredit.com has all the info on disputing unauthorized checking account debits. You usually have 60 days but it isn’t easy. Eyeoncredit also has a list of agencies where you can report this and a message board where you can post your experience. You may find others in the same boat. They specialize in telemarketing fraud. You might consider contacting your local law enforcement and newspaper, describing the incident. Sometimes, an area, even a town, is hit by the same scam all at once. Quick action will minimize the damage. I don’t know how much more damage they can do with your social security number, date of birth, and other information you gave them but I would watch for any signs of ID theft. They may try to obtain credit in your name, change your address, and have the statements sent to them. Let us know how this turns out.

Thanks for your message. I did not give out my checking account #, only the routing #, so the bank isn’t worried about that account. I am still concerned with what these people could do with the ss#, birth date, address and email address and routing # of a checking account. I did not give any passwords or pin #s. If they try to apply for credit, they will be declined because I am over-extended. Can they get access to my credit account #’s? Could they change my address without the #s of the credit cards or checking accounts? Can they obtain a credit report? Does a credit report have any info that could be used? Thank you. Nancy

Ok, let’s take things in order. The routing number without the account number is sort of like giving out a password without telling the person what the password is for. Don’t worry about that. Second, exactly what information did you give them? If you didn’t give your address they can’t do very much. Banks and credit card companies aren’t stupid. In order to register a new address you have to know the old. Of course there are ways they can obtain your current address. If they know your state they can do it either for free or they can purchase a $20.00 piece of software which will return the address if the state is known. As far as changing the address on your credit cards without knowing account numbers, impossible! The third thing is never, NEVER, N E V E R give out personal information over the phone to someone you don’t know. Any legitimate card issuer would require only yolur social security number and would charge any fees to your first month’s statement. Also, they would tell you that you were applying for a MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express, etc. Anything other than a major card is plain & simple nothing more than a SCAM!
Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.

As I said, I gave them ss#, date of birth, ADDRESS and email address, and of course the routing # of one checking acct. That is all I can think of that I gave them. I do believe it was a scam. I just can’t figure out for what, and what they can do with the 4 items of personal info I gave them. I feel like an idiot. At first I tried to say I wasn’t interested and asked for a phone # that I could call them back. She put me on hold and another lady came on and told me I had guaranteed acceptance for a $7500 line of credit. So I said ok and proceeded. Again, I realized as soon as my call was mysteriously disconnected, that I had made a big mistake. So now what? Thank you. Nancy

USA Credit has many names (Does Business As) and telemarkets a catalog card and a low limit credit card. The guaranteed $7,500 limit was probably for the catalog card and only good for purchasing out of their catalog. Some of the other names are: CMG Inc Cruise Marketing Group Great Escape Vacations The Reservation Center USA Platinum CMG has responded to most complaints filed with the BBB, usually by offering refunds and explanations of its position, others remain unanswered. This company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to a pattern of no response to customer complaints and failure to eliminate the basic cause of customer complaints brought to its attention by the Bureau. As shady as they sound it could have been worse. It doesn’t sound like a complete boiler room operation. But catalog cards are scams in that the advertising is deceptive. They lead people to believe they are getting a credit card. At least, most of them are traceable and in this country - usually Florida.

Verne, thank you so much for your research. I am extremely relieved. I guess I lucked out when they disconnected me! I just want you to know how much I appreciate the information you found for me–thank you thank you thank you!!! This has been an extremely helpful site and although I have learned a valuable lesson, I have also found cardratings.com and am sure to visit often. Thanks again. Nancy

I just got my bank account statement, and there was something on my statement I didn’t recognize. It was a withdrawl for 149.95, it didn’t say what it was for just to call 1-800-685-9354. So I called the number and it said my call would be answered in one minute. I waited nobody answered my call, the voice came on again and said my call would be answered in one minute. This continued for about fifteen minutes. Finally I hung up and decided to see what I could dig up online. I search USA Creit and didn’t find much just offers for credit cards. Then I decided to call the number again. The recording said the company goes by the name of Commonwealth Marketing Group, but my call was not able to be completed because it was not during office hours. I still have no idea why they have withdrawn money from my account. I do not own a USA credit card of any kind and would not apply for another given I have way to many in the first place.

Tiffany, Scroll up and look at previous suggestions. You’ll want to dispute the withdrawal at your bank within 60 days. Unfortunately, many have discovered that they must close an account and even change banks once it has been compromised in this way. The crooks will continue to make unauthorized withdrawals. USA Credit is on the scam warning lists. Did you buy anything from a telemarketer or TV infomercial? Sometimes with an infomercial purchase the unwary buyer is automatically enrolled in some service. It’s usually thrown in “free” and easily overlooked. The catch is that if it isn’t cancelled before the trial period ends, an automatic withdrawal is made out of the checking account or from the credit card. eyeoncredit.com is a good place to get help for this sort of scam. Click on “Credit Card Scams” or “Warnings”. Complain to the FTC, state attorney generals, and anyone else you can think of. The ripoffreport is another good site. If you can track USA Credit down to a business you’ve dealt with, let us know which one.

If you have other committments that you were planning to use that money for, they bounce. month after monthe until you can close that account and set up a new one. I’ve done this before with another credit car company. I thought this would be different. Now I can’t reach them. There is no phone number, I have triedyopu can’t reach them, but they still try to dedit your account. BE CARWEFUL. BE WARY. THIS IS A RIP-OFF

These guys screwed a friend out of several hundred dollars before the bank stopped it and credited his account. Said the people spoke as though they were First USA Bank and talked him into giving his information. They took 3 seperate debits from his account - adding up to over $350. They are scam artist - bottom line. They have called my office on occasion - how they got my info I have no idea. They won’t leave a message - but they started to get into the you applied crap and I said, no - I haven’t. He kept insisting that I did and I was approved. Said he had my application in hand. That’s when I asked him to fax me a copy for confirmation - he said that this was a bank and they didn’t have a fax machine . He put me on hold and never came back…….

NancyHi Fletcher91 … Giving them your routing number would be no big deal (routing #’s are not secrets) if they don’t have your account #.. HOWEVER you DID give them your SSN#, and DOB … so now they can use that info to OBTAIN your account number from the bank, since that is the information the bank would ask for. Unfortunately not a lot of banks require personal pin numbers or passwords for phone correspondence unless when prompted by an automatic system. But once these people get a human voice on the bank phone there’s no telling what can happen - just because someone works at a bank doesn’t mean they’re smart enough to discern whether or not the call coming in is from the account holder or not. If I were you, I’d close the bank account. I’d call advise all three credit bureaus that you believe fraud has been committed (just to get a head start!) and they will place notice on your bureaus. NEVER give ANY information out over the telephone, not even your last name!

I have had the same phone calls. This started with me, after I applied for a credit card online with “Orchard Bank” orchardbank.com Along with the numerous calls from the 800 number, I also recived numerous junk emails all offering credit. Orchard bank also deals with “Intermountain Bank” for secured cards, so either company could have sold out the information. I am 100% sure of this because I only applied at one site “Orchard” online and the phone calls and emails started in two days after the application. My email account was spam free before that time, and my phone is an unlisted cell phone.

I have heard of USA Credit. They never called me for the information, but I got the card, all is well and fine, and there were no problems relating to money being taken out of my account, etc. I have never had any problems with the card, or with money mysteriously disappearing out of my account.

My advise to others is DON’T be ohh and ahwed over these kids of BAD ADVERTISEMENTS,really check into them… This company @ first was trying to take out $159.00 when it didn’t go thru they keep on trying so I went to the bank paid $20.00 on stop payment left money in my acct. thinking it was okay and went to draw out money and it stated I had no money in their I felt so embarassed, I talked to my husband and just said we had better just cut our loss.and change our acct. But this company has all together has taken a little bit over $100.00 w/ 2 kids I could of put it to better use.

I just got a call from them today 6/23/04 asking for my info and said they would transfer me then to a rep. i answered most of their question but would under no circumstances give my banking info and then hung up! So I called back to ask for their website to see what was on there as far as purchases (if i were to go through the steps to get the card) and they basically told me i could go to usashoppingclub.com but wouldnt be able to go onto the site with out my account number and pin number because it is a secure site. I went on the website and it appears to be a ligitamate site, however it doenst show much unless you are a user. Everything they are selling looks like cheap crap anways.

Over the past couple days I have recieved the same phone call from 1800-634-6729. They call about 6-7 times a day. If I get a chance to answer no one answers and the call ends at exactly 4 seconds every time. I finally decided to call them back and see who they were and I got the recording that they were Usa credit new card activation and to wait for the next rep. I waited till they said your approximant hold time is 8min, and I hung up I didn’t have time to wait. Finally after days of my phone going off when I can’t answer then finding this number which I have labeled “annoying” I had time to call and waited the 8 min, anfter 3 min it tells you you have 5 min, then again after 3 min they tell you you have 2 min. 6 min after the 2 min hold warning it says your approximant hold time is 8min, I had time so I waited again and then got the 5 min recording, and then a few min later the call dies at 16min and 38 sec. So I call again in the early morn like 4:30am thinking there would be less call volume. Same exact thing and the call ended at exactly 16 min and 38 sec. I called back right away and the same thing ending at exactly 16 min and 38 sec. I have yet to speak to a real person, so I decided to look on-line to see who they were and I find this with ppl who have the same problem. I am really sorry to those of you who have been scamed I just thank GOD they haven’t gotten to my accounts yet. I am going to alert my back asap and call that other number that someone gave out 1800-685-9354 and check out the websites given here. usacdt.com and usashoppingclub.com If anyone finds anything else out Please let me and the rest of us know. The people at usa credit finally stayed on the phone this morn when they called. She got into the whole $7500 credit like with most of you, and she asked for my e-mail adress. I told her I wanted to ask her some questions, and asked why they call me 6-7 times a day and then hang up when I answer or if I call I get put on hold for over 16 min and then they hang up. All she said was “Hmm so did you want to fill out an application?” I told her no and told her to stop calling me. Hopefully they will stop calling and leave me alone. Toodles, Amber

I have heard of USA credit. They screwed my husband and I over. First they took out 179.00$ from our account and now every month they charge us 9.95$. We have never even gotten a card. My husband called and cancelled with them but the keep charging our account. Do whatever you can to get them away from your finances.

I’ve been receiving the same phone calls from this company, all day. I haven’t been able to get to my cell phone, as I am at work, so finally I called the number back and heard USA Credit. I immediately hung up the phone and jumped online to investigate. I’m so glad I found this information before speaking to them.

It doesn’t matter whether you put the capital letters in or not–you’ll get to the same site. Try it. If you’re going to a directory of a site, the directory name might be case-sensitive if it’s hosted on a Linux or UNIX-type system. Then the right case has to be used. But domain names themselves don’t care about case. Imagine the confusion if the WhiteHouse.gov was different from whitehouse.gov! It’s bad enough that whitehouse.com is a porn site.

Yesterday I got my bank statement in the mail and there was a charge for $149.95. I called the 800 number that was listed on my statement– needless to say I was on hold for 32 minutes. No one ever got on. I have never talked to anyone at this company, I dont even know what this is. Besides the numbers that are listed throughout the page– does anyone know of any other numbers?? I live paycheck to paycheck and this is killing me financially. Please help someone and see if there are other numbers. thanks.

I don’t understand why everyone attempted to contact the number in the first place. Dispute the charges with your bank. Every check you writes has enough information (routing & account number) for someone draft against your account. Every online bill payment service accepts routing & account numbers without verifying whether it is an authorized account. So, your bank obviously has a way to get the money back. Otherwise, anyone can just randomly pick an account to pay his/her credit card balance via online bill payment.

Post subject: IT’S SIMPLE TO GET RID OF THESE PHONE CALLS!
I used to work for a telemarketing company and know a lot of tricks to get these guys to stop hounding you. First of all…never ever ever ever give anyone your information over the phone!!! Checking account information is not required for them to approve you for a credit card or line of credit! You guys have to be smarter than them. Be sceptical of anyone asking for any information over the phone…if you really really want the offer - ask them for a number and an extension where they can be reached at so that you can call them back…do some research and call them back if you have to…but don’t give this info out over the phone - Really! I have been getting this phone call and found your forum so I finally answered thier call…yep they say I filled out a credit card application etc. etc. Rather than even argue with the girl I said the simple words that every telemarketer will listen to…”Take me off your calling list.” They are required BY LAW to take you off of their list as soon as these words exit your mouth…they do not say anything other than - ok, thank you - and POOF! THEIR GONE! It’s really that simple!

The number that you need to call to have them stop is 800-594-3993 and insist to speak to a supervisor….they will opt you out…then file a complaint with the do not call registry or since you are on the do not call list file a legal compalint against then…the info should be in your states do not call registry web site

I received a call also from this company today. I know I did not apply for any creit line. Their choice of wording seems delibert to make you think that you did. Before I could finish my sentence that I did not apply for anything. The person hung up. I pressed *69 and got their number 800-634-6729. From my experience and from what I am reading from your posts, this company is using deceptive practices. I am on the no call registry, I am going to file complaint. Thanks for that advise.

hmm, ive receied 3 calls from this number 800-634-6729. Since I never pick up my phone when its a number I don’t know I can’t confirm it was teh same people. But I will next time and see whats up. Also its my cell phone, which seems strange, I never give that number unless its to a friend or something I really need to use it. The only places ive given it out in the past few weeks were to a couple of websites, I gave it out last night to buy a couple books online, other than that on Infone.com which i signed up through an offer from freeflatscreens.com. Thats all I remember. But im sure they got my number from somewhere online.

Sure, Curtis, I’ll work with you. BTW, did you hear the latest? Apparently you can get a slew of credit card numbers simply by doing a Google search. The way it works is you take the first four digits of a VISA card (MasterCard and Discover work the same way) and enter a range such as “Visa xxxx000000000000..xxxx999999999999″ in the search box. Google will allegedly come up with a list of cards within that range, sometimes with personal information on the card holder. Apparently it’s because some small merchants leave their credit card information on their sites in an unsecured manner. Scary stuff!!
Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.

Thanks for your response Ira. Have you been a victim of a scam yourself? When is the best time to reach you early next week? Please advise.
