Post subject: New champion in the gas card wars!
Hess Oil has just released their new credit card from Chase. It offers a 10% rebate on all HESS gas, merchandise and food purchases for the first 90 days. Beyond 90 days the rebate drops to 5%. There is a 1% rebate on all non-HESS purchases. There is also a 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for up to 6 months, although there is a 3% balance transfer fee which maxes out at $50.00 during the intro period and $75.00 after the first six months. The only downside I can find is that the "rebates" can only be used towards future purchases at Hess, Hess Express, or Wilco Hess locations. However, here in New Jersey Hess is often close to the lowest priced gas around, and if you drive as much as I do you gotta love it, especially with gas prices closing in on the $2.00/gallon mark again.
hesscard.com/hess to apply.

isn't it better to get a 5% on gas from any gas station by using citi dividend? also, from what I see in North Jersey, the lowest price on gas is @ Delta gas station, not Hess. Discover gas card is the next best option, but not all gas station take it (Delta does not). 10% for 90 days is good, but it's only a drop in the ocean, unless you have a place to store 1000 gallons of gas:twisted:

There are 5 times as many Hess stations as Delta. Among the major brands Hess is the lowest. If you drive close to 40,000 miles per year like I do, that 90 days is equal to 10,000 miles. Pretty significant. Also, six months of interest free purchases isn't bad either. I'm not knocking the Citibank card. I'm simply pointing out that there's now an interesting alternative.

The total amount you'll earn is not that big 10000 miles, 30miles per galon = 333 gallons = $600 you'll earn $60 with Hess card vs $30 with citi card. $30 difference during the first 90 days, not worth it imo, better to get the card that's more useful.

The Citicard is limited to $300.00 in rebates during any year. Hess is unlimited. 30 mph? In my dreams! I get about 23. 10,000 miles divided by 23 = 434.78 gallons X average price of $1.90/gallon = about $826.00. My rebate would be $82.00 which is $41.00 more than the Citicard. Interest free purchases for six months is another perk you can put a value on. All in all, if they're giving, I'm taking. I want both!

I surely will, Curtis. I'm also going to email info on this card to our favorite Washington Post reporter to see if we can't get yet another article out of him.

The best CC for gas is by far the Citi Dividend Platinum Select. All others have intros for 3 months usually and it goes back down to 3, 4, or 5%. Citicard stays at 5%. Plus the Citicard rewards you at any gas station/supermarket/pharmacy. Plus right now, because I claimed my first $100 check with Citi, they are giving me 6% at gas stations/supermarkets/pharmacys and 2% everywhere else for 3 months. Beat that.

You didn't read or you didn't understand my post. Hess is offering 10% on gas purchases for for the same three months! You can't beat that, especially if you're a road warrior like I am. I'll milk any card to the fullest and drop it immediately I find something better. I have the City Platinum select card and in no way am I dissatisfied with it, but a 10% rebate is better than a 5% rebate, at least it is the way I learned math.

You can only use the Hess card at Hess brand gas stations. That is why the Citi is better. Can be used at any gas station regardless of brand.
