I didn't know that blue was just for students. I have seen a lot of folks that are rebuilding trying to get this card.

Curtis, isn't it only AmEx that can decline Blue applications, not the universities? Universities can make a desisioin to not allow credit solicitations on campus, is that what you mean? Sis, there is a "Blue for students" card in addition to the regular "Blue". Theire is also "cashback Blue". Those are the three I know about, maybe there are more.

Blue is a regular credit card right? Not like the prior American Express credit cards that have the no pre-determined spending limit... which as I now understand is misleading because the company does eventually determine spending limit. I just don't know after everything that I have read about AMEX that I would ever recommend any one doing business with this company, they are over inflacted in their ego I think and don't treat their customers with the best of respect.

Yes, all of the Blue cards are regular credit cards, they have a pre-set credit limit. That "no pre-set spending limit" thing on their charge cards is a big fat joke, I agree with you. I also agree on the "ego" part. It's amazing how they manage to maintain this aura of exclusivity. Their marketing people are geniuses, I think! Their customer service is pretty good, though. Here is the info on all their "Blue" cards: www66.americanexpress.com/cards/Fmacfservlet?csi=0/20/b/80/3154177148/315204745541/20/n/3/38/67/2&from=200&mgmID=undefined.

Looks like if you had your druthers, then Blue Cashback would be the one to go with, unless you think the point interest would make a difference to go with the first one.

Yeah, Blue Cash is good if you pay your balance in full - gives you a little kickback for what you charge (not that little, actually - I got more than a thousand dollars cashback in the latest year from cards like this one). But go with a lower APR card (like regular Blue) if you carry a balance.

Eugene, Yes, you are correct. However, apparently AmEx is declining students from certain universities based on university wide stats (rather than basing their decision on each individual application). This is, of course, their right. I just had never heard of such a policy and was looking for feedback on the subject.

My application for Blue Student card was declined because my school, a two year community college, is not in their list. And they sent me a letter stating that they would approve me in my four year college or university. And I am just wondering why AmEx is not welcome everywhere? From paying tuition fees to purchasing groceries, many stores and schools do not accept AmEx. That's the big problem for AmEx card holder.

Post subject: Amex is declining Blue for students
They are declining blue for students and it is dependent on the school or university. The two year state colleges do not accept Amex in my area and they do not offer it to the students, my son applied but because his 4yr. school does not accept it, he could not get it.

I applied for blue for students on friday and it takes 2 weeks to hear back and I'm just wondering if I'll be approved. I have almost no credit history (I have one store card and made 1 purchase w/ it and paid in full on time) and am not working-I get income from my parents. I know this isn't a lot of information but what do you all think?

My experience with getting AmEx has been good. There are other things that I hate about AmEx, but that is a different matter. I go to graduate school. I had applied for and received a CitiBank platinum card for students 6 months before I applied for the AmEx blue for students. I could not get approved online instantly, but I got the card in mail in a few weeks' time. After a couple of months of having that card, I started seeing the AmEx blue cash advertisements. I called up the customer service and asked my card to be upgraded to the Blue Cash card. They said, "Right away". And I received my blue cash card with my next bill. Got a lower APR on that too. A friend of mine (also in grad school) could not get approved for CitiBank student card, but later when he applied to AmEx, received a letter from AmEx asking him some documentary proof that he was indeed enrolled in university. He sent the documents required by them, and got his card. So there you go...my experience with getting the card has been good and I would recommend that card without hesitation.

I am in Chicago, in a grad program. Had no credit history, international student, the works.. Tried for 1.5 years to apply for cc, got rejected everywhere. *sniff* *sniff* Then I suddenly got approved for Merrill Lynch + visa, AND Amex blue cash. I must emphasise that just 3 months earlier I'd applied for and been denied the Amex blue for student....
The mystery continues. :> R
