Post subject: Cross Country Bank... WHAT?!!
I have bad credit as a result of carelessness when I was younger and am trying to repair it. Fortunately, I have a car loan (which has a cosigner) and a cell phone bill that report to the credit bureaus regularly. In thought of that, I thought I'd try and get a credit card to help build more credit (so I can eventually refinance that car loan and get it in my own name without a cosigner). I stupidly applied all over the place to big banks like Bank of America, Fleet, Chase, etc - all running down my credit score. Well, Cross Country Bank sent me an application stating I was pre-approved. I thought what the heck? I need to establish more credit, and for me at this point a high APR would be worth it, just so I can have something report on my bureau. So I read the fine print. CCB stated there was a one time fee of $50 which would be applied to my first billing statement. It advised me of further possible fees (late fees, overlimit fees, etc - all contingent on MY actions). I got the card yesterday. I was so excited! $500 limit, not a lot, but good enough to start establishing! I logged onto their website to set up online account access, after I called and activated my card. And after the registration process, what do I see? CURRENT BALANCE: $150.00 LIMIT: $500.00 AVAILABLE BALANCE: $350.00 I knew something wasn't right. I read the contract and everything I have from them three more times. Saw nothing representing this amount they have already charged me (less the $50). So I logged onto google.com and typed in a search for CCB stories. Low and behold, millions of people are online complaining on their deceptive practices, their lies, and poor customer service. So, does anyone here (I am new here, hello! I'll post in the new member forum eventually! lol) have a CCB card as well, with $150 charged on their new account before they even received it too!? I'm tempted to call them, but I'm sure I'll be treated like an ingrate, and I'm sure they'll sound more like a debt collector (which *I* myself am a bill collector) than a customer service rep. Any advice? Should I close this card? I bet if I do I'll still have to pay $150, and God knows what else, considering all the horror stories I have read within only having the card for 24 hours!

Call and try to cancel immediately. I would also e-mail them and explain you did'nt understand their expensive terms and do not have a use for this card. You have the right to change your mind, just do it right away, and if need be, send them a letter via overnight for proof as well. Stay a way from these types, they will make matters worse instead of repairing or starting credit. Try a secured card or a credit union that reports.
Good Luck!

i would at least call and see why its $150 dollars, then go from there if its some type of annuall fee and you were charge a $50 setup fee that's plausible but still a rotten card to have. best suggestion is to stay away from credit cards as they only seem to used to supplement income until that balance gets out of hand and over its limit. best suggestion just keep your cell phone attempt to get the carloan in your name only and live like usual. a credit card is just another thing to remember, and face it you may have learned your lesson the first time but why temp yourself to make the same mistakes.
