Write your bank and tell them this withdrawal was not authorized by you. Put pressure on them and keep a written record. There may still be time to reverse this charge since the charge isn’t that old. File an online complaint with the following: (find your state atttorney general at this site) or Internet Fraud Center (government agency that specializes in internet fraud) National Fraud Information Center 1-800-876-7060 (lots of good information and more resources) (bad business bureau) creditinsiders.com message board may have some answers too. (won’t resolve individual cases but will investigate and prosecute) This isn’t an exhaustive list. There may be other agencies or regulators that may help. The ICCFBI (Internet Fraud Center) will investigate but their form is a monster. In cases of widespread fraud some of these agencies have been able to recover victims’ money. I’m currently dealing with my third case of fraud in less than a year. The latest scamster has moved from France to Hong Kong to Korea and now claims Gibraltar as home . I’ve just about given up on ecommerce.

No, no, NO! Don’t EVER send money up front to obtain a credit card, especially to a company that has nothing but a post office box. Any LEGITIMATE offerer will bill any charges on your first month’s statement. Not only that, but even if you eventually get it, the card is virtually useless since it can only be used for purchases through overpriced sponsored catalogs and websites. Their terms and conditions specifically state that their card is not a Visa or MasterCard. You can visit their website at cpcard.com for more information. Here is a review of the card from cardoffers.com: “The Consumer Preferred Platinum Card issued by Consumer Preferred, LLC, is designed for those with poor to limited credit. “Though the credit card does have a $45 enrollment fee, it is considered reasonable as compared to similar cards, which can charge fees from anywhere between $200 - $400 for the first year of membership. In addition, there is no interest rate on purchases and no annual fee. “Anyone who applies for the credit card will be accepted, based on their “No Credit Check or Guaranteed Approval” policy, though certain restrictions do apply (see website for details). Upon the first visit to the authorized website, cardholders receive a up to a $50 discount on their first purchase. “So what’s the catch? The major drawback of the credit card is that it can only be used for retail purchases through the sponsored website and catalogs. In essence, the credit card is a retail charge card that can only be used for selected products. However, this may or may not be a drawback for certain members. “In addition, Consumer Preferred, LLC requires up to a 35% deposit for merchandise purchases until cardholders demonstrate that payments will be made in a timely manner. “Therefore, those who do not require a credit card for general everyday purchases may find the Consumer Preferred Platinum Card as a suitable option. “Updated: July 21, 2003 Most Attractive Feature(s): No APR; no credit checks; Discount on first purchase made with the card. Least Attractive Feature(s): Can only be used as a retail charge card.”

Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.

Dawn, You need to dispute the second withdrawal from your checking account within 60 days or sooner. Keep a written record and copies. You may want to close your checking account since there’s nothing to prevent future withdrawals. The crooks will use different names, amounts, and dates to get by any blocks the bank sets up. Closing a compromised checking account is the best way to go. Some recommend even changing banks. (banks have been known to take money out of your new account to cover back-dated withdrawals on your old account). The thieves will use every trick to get the withdrawal to go through. Since you were probably misled and thought you were getting a true credit card, file a report with the FTC, state attorney generals (where you live and in Florida), and the BBB in Florida that covers Tampa about this and the unauthorized second withdrawal. A couple good sites that deal with this sort of scam are: eyeoncredit.com and ripoffreport.com Look under scams at eyeoncredit and you will find a message board. At both sites you will see how other people are handling your situation. At eyeoncredit they know the proper way to dispute an unauthorized ACH withdrawal and even how to go after the ACH, or automated clearing house, that processed the withdrawal. Sometimes the ACH’s are in league with the scam artists. In the future hang up on telemarketers and don’t buy anything off the tv. Yes, even infomericals are often dirty. Doing so gets you and your checking account information on lists that are sold and resold. The whole thing snowballs.

lynette, Check out eyeoncredit.com You’ll find information on this company and how best to proceed. Usually offers like this are outright scams or, at best, “catalogue” cards. In fact, there are so many scams and catalogue cards in Florida, especially the Tampa area, I’m suspicious of any offer or merchant in that area. Doesn’t say much for the Florida state attorney general or BBB.

Wanda, this is a public forum for discussion of credit card matters. It is not your credit card company.

Be wary of any card with membership fees. Most are catalogue cards and not true credit cards that report to the CRA’s.

Post subject: this has been a total rip off

I agreed to this because I had bad credit and thought it would help me build better credit. All I got was an education about buying from tele-marketers. Bad experience and I was charged on my checking account 3 times. They are good at what they do . Boy do I feel stupid.

Post subject: 1-800-685-9354 Credit Card Scam

I recently checked my bank statement, and their was a deduction of $149 out of my account. There was a phone number where the description of purchase would be (1-800-685-9354). I don’t know what to do. I read a previous post from June but it didn’t seem that money was actually taken from the persons account. However, when he called this number he was diconnected. What should I do?

usa credit is a total scam. I had a friend who had around 600 taken out of his account. He never applied, never signed anything, never ever talked to anyone on the phone. One day he went to check his bank balance and noticed it was 600 dollars short. Come to find out, usa credit got his info somewhere and took money from him. Usa credit claimed that he gave them the info over the phone(thats how they covered their butts from legal action), but my friend says he never spoke to anyone. When he told his bank about it they fought for him and he got the money back quickly. I would see if your bank will issue you another account number and close that one. usa credit will take and take.

USA Credit is just a scam out of Canada and sometimes Florida or Utah. Don’t pay to get a credit card. The idea behind a credit card is to borrow, not buy. Don’t buy credit, let it come to you.

Post subject: USA Credit

Hi all….I’m responding to the complaints about the company called USA CREDIT that keeps calling people about their credit line. They were calling me too…..the only way i figured out how to stop them is when i emailed them saying that if they did not stop calling my private cell phone number, i would get lawyers involved……that was it. So i they repeadiatly call you, mention that you heard of the fraud and will not hestitate to take further action….its been a couple days, and i haven’t gotten a single phone call back! Good luck everybody!
