Post subject: MBNA Platinum Plus Promotional offer!

MBNA mailed another offer with an APR of 5.9% for the same credit card I received about 6 months ago (APR 7.9%)! I guess MBNA doesn't screen for current card holders!

They all tend to do that. I kept getting for BofA Plat after I got it and after about 5 or 6 months it stopped.

I called MBNA to see if I could apply the 5.9% to the current card I have since it's the same one. I was told that I am already receiving the lowest rate and the 5.9% are for a 'X' number of new applicants (less than 20,000). Basically, I would have to submit another application to get the 5.9%!

I might consider if I get a substantially larger credit line. I was merely trying to avoid an inquiry, Thanks!

How do you combine accounts? I have never heard of that before.

I will let one of the others here explain that to you - totally blew my mind when I seen them posting on this ability - but yes, they say it is possible to request the creditors which you have multiple accounts with can do just that.

I've done this several times with several banks. All you have to do is ask them. I've done it with Chase, MBNA, & Citibank.

Most recently I applied for a 0% balance transfer intro rate card from Citibank. They sent me the card with a $500.00 limit and a note stating that I had too much outstanding credit with Citibank, but if I wanted to I could transfer the outstanding credit line from other Citibank cards into the new offer. I called them and managed to move another $6,000.00 of high rated credit limit into the new 0% offer. Of course they closed the other card(s), but who cares?

Chase made the same offer and I closed three cards into one and ended up with $18,000.00 of 0% balance transfer, 0% balance transfer fee credit for one year. I promptly did a balance transfer of $17,500.00 into my checking account from which I transfered the $$$ into an interest bearing account. I pay minimum each month until the intro rate expires at which time I pull the principal out of the interest bearing account, pay it off, and keep the $300.00+ in interest. Not bad, huh?

MBNA did it a little differently. When I applied for a 0% card they said no new credit, but if I wanted to simply transfer an existing card over to the new card they'd be happy to do that. This has happened several times with them.

Hope this helps.
