How many credit cards should I carry?

Are three major credit cards too many to carry with you at all times, if you use one of them (Visa) about three times a year? How many do other people carry??

I know one should be enough, I break that rule too - always keep all my cards with me, when they should be safely locked up.
I really don't use credit cards - more opt to write a check myself.
Only time I use the credit cards is once in a blue moon for major purchase - or if I am low on funds between pay checks.

I carry all mine as well! Know that I shouldn't either but for me it is a feeling of safety. I have 4.

I carry two. I try to use one card exclusively online and another on the rare occasion I venture out of my cave. I take my online card as back up.

Guilty I carry some of mine too; but keep them in separate pouches, but use certain one for purchases and gas and they are there for emergencies.

I tend to carry 3 on me. I guess it really depends on the purchase and which reward card will suit me best.
Hmm... make that 4. I have the BofA mini card on my key ring. I forget about that one.
