Chase CashBuilderSM Cashbuilder

Summary

The CashBuilder Reward Plan allows you to earn an annual cash rebate of up to 2% by using your Chase CashBuilder Card. Whenever you make new Purchases on your Account, which appear on your monthly statement, we will calculate a CashBuilder Reward for that billing period based upon your annual level of net Purchases. The percentage calculation used to determine your CashBuilder Reward is based upon your annual level of net Purchases (“Tier Levels”), and will range from one quarter (0.25%) percent up to two (2%) percent of your annual level of net Purchases as follows: 0.25% for the first $2,000, 0.50% for the next $2,000 ($2,000.01 - $4,000), 0.75% for the next $2,000 ($4,000.01 - $6,000) and 1% for net Purchases in excess of $6,000 ($6,000.01 & up). For any billing cycle in which your Account has a revolving balance equal to or greater than $500, your Reward for new Purchases in that billing cycle will be doubled to up to 2%, depending on your current Tier Level. There is a $500 maximum on Rewards that may be earned in any 12-month period measured from your Registration Date Anniversary. Checks are issued within 4-6 weeks of your Registration Date Anniversary.

See my earlier posts about Chase. I was with them 7 years and they jacked my rates when my overall credit utilization surpassed 80%. No derogs, fairly high scores, and perfect payment history, made no difference to them.

Chase started me at $4,000 and, only after I asked for a CL increase, a few years later, did they bump it to $4,500 - the customer rep did it very begrudgingly. I can sense when someone is begrudging.

All my other cards were throwing increases and BT offers at me but Chase never did.

After the intro period, my rate went to 9.9% until the ratejacking. I closed the account to freeze the rate and two years later they jacked me again. I reminded them that I had already rejected their terms two years earlier and even had copies of my letters and their responses. It turned out my account was only "sort of" closed.

Both times Chase tried to retain me but I said what's to stop you from changing terms in the future - even next month?

My problems with their online site was another adventure. In short, they required proof of my address, wanted my DL # and so forth in order to set up online bill payment. I was already in a logged-in, password-protected area simply trying to PAY THEM and they wanted more and more information. The second ratejacking came about 3 weeks later.

I found it especially obnoxious that Chase takes the information they gather at the online site and somehow uses it in their credit card risk assessment department. They pretend to gather information for one thing and use it for another purpose.

With Chase, the relationship means nothing.

I hate those words "up to." That means that most people never attain the "up to" rate, and even if they do the money they've earned to get there is miniscule. For instance, .25% of $2,000.00 is a huge $5.00, and you'll get paid once a year!! Why not go with a card (there are too many to enumerate) that pays a straight 1% across the board and pays it monthly as a cash rebate? Unless you're spending hugh amounts, the "up to" rated cards generally aren't worth it.
