I had not seen this card before (wasn’t really looking so it may not be new). I am an existing Plat Visa card-holder with BOA. The Power Rewards is a points rewards credit card with up to 2% cash back. If possible, I would like to switch to this card from my old one. has anyone called BOA and tried this?

Just call them and tell them that you would like to switch your card to a power rewards card. There shouldn’t be any problem; however, the interest rate will change. If you pay your bill in full, it shouldn’t matter, but if you carry a balance, make sure you pay it off before you switch because the interest rate will be higher on the power rewards.

I did…and there was no problem. I contacted BoA with an email stating my preference for upgrading my platinum visa to the power rewards card and it was taken care of with no problem.

I actually tried calling yesterday to do this. The Rep I spoke to told me that they would have to increase my CL in order to convert to it. My current CL is $4500. I didn’t think of asking what it would need to be to get it. I asked if i would be keeping my same account number. She said they would have to close my old one and open a new one. Since I’m trying to build my credit I didn’t want to do this. I only have 2 cards at the moment.

If they issue a new card with a new number and close your current card, your credit report will show the history of the old one, but with the new card number. It’s not going to show that you closed a card and opened a new account. I switched my BoA visa many times until I decided to stay with the no reward platinum which I rarely use. My report shows only 1 BoA account although I changed my cards 3 times.
