A balance transfer is just what it says it is. The transfer of the unpaid balance on one credit card (usually a high interest card) to another (usually a low interest card). It’s actually a slight misnomer. Rather than “transferring” the balance, the new card pays the old card, so you’re paying off one debt and incurring a new debt of the same amount.
