Credit Cards and Debt Management

My first card when I was 18 was by 1st Financial Bank. It wasn't long after I turned 18 that they called me to apply for the card (seemed like they were waiting for the day) and I didnt't know any better so I applied for it over the phone and I was approved. Now being 23 I learned so much more and have been through a credit debt program for $3,600 worth.

I was just wondering if anyone is familar with 1st Financial Bank cards because they were HORRIBLE. Their interest rates were ridiculous and I was never late and they refused to give me a lower rate at the time but they raised my credit limit every single time I got close to it. Also they refused to negotiate with the debt management program I went through which I could not believe! They wouldn't budge on anything!! How common is it that a CC company won't negotiate with a debt management program?

This message posted by e-mail request from one of the visitors to our site:

Is there a card like the GM card (mastercard) Only the points are for Ford motor company products? If so how does it rate and where can I find information for a application?

I found your site by doing a search and I really like the way you rate the cards and split them out into catagories, makes for some really useful information when looking at getting new cards or controlling or deleting existing cards.

Citibank used to have for Ford. I think it was the Driver's Edge. I dont know if that is still around, but it was only 1% back. They now have the dividend select, which is a much better deal. 5% on gas, pharmacy, and grocery stores.

Credit Card to Reestablish Credit

HELP!!

I am re-establishing my credit; I have 1 charge off (1 year old) and 3 collections( less than a year old).

I am trying to have four complete accounts on my credit reports so that I am able to buid a positive history.

I currently have a secured BOA card @ 1,000 and a metabank card @ 400, and my Fico is around 640. Both accounts I had to actually use my money to secure these lines of credit. But I want to get two more credit lines so that creditors can see that i am able to handle different lines of credit and make my FICO score stronger. The problem is that I am tired of paying companies for secured cards and $250.00 in start up fees. I don't mind having a small credit line, I just don't want to use my own money to obatin credit any more. I have already tried to apply to chevron and jcpenny's (because I heard they were easy to get) and got turned down, so know i am scared to keep getting new inquires. I would apply to capitol one but they are the company that I got charged off from in 2002 and I know that they have me black listed. So i don't know what else to apply for???? I will also be getting a co-sign car loan, but I don't think that will help my credit too much, becasue it's still secured. Any suggestions please??

The only thing that I can think of is waiting it out until the bad stuff goes off of your credit report. I believe it is 7 years.

I sympathize with your plight, but you've dug yourself a very deep hole and unfortunately nobody is going to help you get out for fear that you'll just slip further down. I agree that about all you can do is continue to stay out of debt, pay your bills on time, and reestablish yourself that way. You might try taking out a small personal loan at a local credit union, depositing the proceeds in a savings account, and pay off the loan from itself. Either that or get someone to cosign for you.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT - Whatever you do, NEVER be late and NEVER get yourself into a chargeoff position again. That's a promise you have to make to yourself.

Needaloan:

When re-establishing credit, remember that TIME is your best friend. You currently have two credit cards which is a good start. Whatever you do, keep these cards open and let them age. Continue to pay them on time and keep your utilization low. Over time as these accounts are kept in good standing, your score will gradually increase and you'll eventually start to receive better credit offers in the mail.

I agree with Ira, it is a good idea to apply for an installment loan at this time as it will kill two birds with one stone; you'll have an additional trade line being reported, and you'll also have introduced a new type of trade line to your credit report. FICO also takes into consideration the mix of credit types that you maintain.

Just remember to be patient and keep inquiries to a minimum. I'm sure you're aware that potential creditors don't like to see a lot of recent inquiries on an applicant's report.

Best of Luck!!

If you are going to apply for more credit, at least apply with a ccc that will pull from a different bureau. Try Whopulledmycredit.com. With a 640 you should get approved for several Household products. They have a card selector that pulls a soft off of equifax and tells you what you would probably be approved for(try Household before Orchard Bank, Orchard is even more subprime). Providian may also approve you. I believe they pull mostly tu.

Orchard, does a soft inq on Experian as well as pulls Experian
Household credit card accounts pull Equifax for both soft and hard,

My expierence i live in Wisconsin if that makes a different

I am aware that Orchard is owned by Household, but they pulled different bureaus for some of their cards, offered

If you have any family members that would be willing to add you to their credit cards as an authorized signer, you will immediately inherit their entire credit history for that card.

Have them send the card to their house, they can shred it as soon as they get it, but you will still be able to get the history after the next posting by the card, usually within 30-45 days.

If you have additional questions please contact me at www.mydenverlender.com.
