Credit Card Offer Approval

I have a Visa and a MC with $28K total credit limit. I charged 43% last month and paid it in full already; however, my equifax score is 663 because it shows the high balances that I already paid. The funny thing is, I haven't been receiving any pre-approved offers for a few months and now, I get new offers almost every day. Some are good ones like 0APR for 15 months from Blue Cash Amex and Chase flexible rewards visa signature with 7.99 Fixed APR after introductory offer expires. my credit history is very short. Visa since 9/2003, and MC since 3/2005. What I really want is starwoods cc from AMEX but waiting until next year so that my history is a little longer. My question is: If I apply to these cards, will I get denied due to the low score? If I wait until the offers expire and my score get higher above 750 next month, would they still honor these offers? Also, is it a bad time to request credit line increase since my score right now is too low?

You'll need to wait some weeks more until it appears in your credit report.
However if you didn't have any lates , or collections or charge-off in your report , actually you can make the application for these cards.

Credit Card Balance Transfer Question

Mm I just thought of another question regarding b/t for the experts who've done this before =)

When you b/t, there is normally a fee, right? And I understand the interest rates on purchases could be very different from b/t rate, and that's where they get you. So when they bill you the b/t fee, is that charged the purchase % or the 0% b/t rate?

Do you have to actively consider that you may be going overlimit when you b/t? Eg, they give you a $5000 credit limit. Fee is $60 max. 0% for 1 year, 16% for purchases.

So you b/t $5000 innocently, and immediately go overlimit and get the $35 overlimit charge. Does this happen?

Or you b/t $4940@0% , and the $60 fee you pay at 16%. Does this happen?

Yes , your total debt would be : $5095.00 because the b/t fee makes your account overlimit. May hurt your credit history and score.

You can do it but!!!

The maximum money for b/t will be $4940 , but even that i would not recommend neither because you are maxing out your account.

My recommendation is to make a b/t to a maximum of half of your credit limit. I would limit to just $2500.00

Do any cards give you rewards for a balance transfer? I think that the 5%/1% Citi Dividend card gives you $5 for each balance transfer, but I am not sure on the fine print and don't want to get burned. Does anybody know of other cards that do?

They ALWAYS check Experian.

If your score is good, they may be doing a manual review.

They may counter-offer you with a store credit card.

Thats normal for them. It is better if you apply in store, then you'll get an instant response and if denied you can ask for reconsideration for which Nordstrom is very good about.

I was told you'll need close to 700 and no major baddies in the last 48 months for ythe VISA.

They always use EX, I was also told the same by the credit dept.

my fico score is +750, highest credit line is 16000. total credit line >100,000. utilization <10%.
I was shoppping online and they said they offer 2%off on nordstrom CC purchase so I applied thinking they give instant approval.
the only thing that concerns me is I have applied for credit line increase (hard inquiry was dose) an hour before applying to nordstrom visa card, and both inquires went through EXP.
do you think that played a factor of non giving an instant approval.
BY THE WAY, they pulled a credit report right after submitting the application.

Instant Credit Card Approvals

I currently have a Discover with a $20,000 limit. If I apply for a Discover Card is it possible that the system would instantly approve me for another one and say give me a card for $10K then I can call up 2 months laster and ask them to combine both accts to my older acct?

My basic question is if I got a bank card like Discover, AMEX or Chase (all of which have instant approvals) would the instant approval system detect my exisiting credit lines or will it slip by and allow the system to approve me if my credit rating says to approve me?

Your available credit lines would be seen during the Instant decisioning process.

Yes, they would know of the existing line, but that don't mean that they would not give you a second line of credit with them, I have had more then one account at the same time with just one creditor.

So it is possible, just not a sure thing.

As long as you are current and have no negatives with Amex and have a decent score Amex will let you have as many as four or five different cards. Discover might let you have a personal loan in lieu of a card. Banks are more likely to give you more than one card.

I was wondering if Discover is considered BK unfriendly?

Yes, they are on the list as bankruptcy unfriendly... this link takes you to a list I had received from lady from another site, she did a pretty good job putting this together... AOC site has a list like this as well, may be more up to date then this one.

Hi,

I had 2 Discover Card accounts that I had stopped paying on. After 8 months of no payments, they sold the debt on one card to a collection agency and the other they gave to a law firm. Using a lawyer to negotiate for me, I wound up paying them $8,000 on $20,000 worth of debt. The collection agency had bought the debt from them and settled in a hurry for a fraction of what I owed. The law firm was another story, they took more money on a much lesser amount that I owed on my second account. I didn't have to file bankruptcy and was able to get the debt listed as "Settled" on my credit report and a zeroed out balance. I would not attempt this without a lawyer though to work with you. They hounded me from October until May and I paid the 2 settlements in June. I hope this helps you out.
