Any recommendations on which credit card my two daughters, who are starting college, should consider acquiring?

Try something refillable like VisaBuxx or Eufora (Mastercard). Somebody (parent or student) prefills the card with money, which the student can then spend. Good for first time users, or kids who may not spend responsibly. If they're refilling it themselves, it's a good way for them to set their own limits.
If they want to start building a good credit rating, get a major-name card with a low credit limit (no college student needs a credit limit over $500, and usually can't get one with no credit history anyway).
No matter what they get, make sure they pay it off regularly and use it responsibly.

I have had good experience with Citibank: Platinum Select and Dividend Platinum Select; American Express: Blue for Students; MBNA: World Points. I would recommend
those without inhibitions.
