Offer of MBNA Worldpoints Visa Signiture Credit Card

Guest: Brownsfan2005
Post subject: Offer of MBNA Worldpoints Visa Signiture Credit Card
Posted: Wed Jul 20, 2005 2:14 pm

New poster here, but I have watched this Board for awhile. I have a question to ask because I know of no one better suited to answer it.

I currently have a MBNA Worldpoints Visa which I have had since November 2004. Today in the mail, I got a letter from MBNA letting me know that I can upgrade to the MBNA Worldpoints Visa Signiture. As far as I can tell, I keep the no annual fee but gain no preset spending limit, and premium offers for hotels, etc. Is this truly an upgrade? Is it worth it to upgrade?

They do not state the interest rate but I can tell you that I would never upgrade if they tried to bump up my interest rate.

Your assitance is greatly appreciated.

Greetings and welcome to the board! I would say go for it as long as the interest rate is the same and there is no additional fees. We have heard good comments about Visa' Signature service. Let us know how things turn out...

I recently received an offer to apply for this Signature Visa, did and got the card with an introductory 2.9% for 12 cycles. Although the cardholder won’t be charged an over limit penalty, every transaction which takes you over your initial limit (you’re given one) has to be individually evaluated and approved. So this no pre-spending limit deal has to be tested to see what it yields.

Once BofA fully takes over MBNA, there's no telllin’ what it’ll do to this Signature Card and its features.

Credit Card Use Question

Hi,

I just recently got my first credit card. I need to make a purchase that is roughly $800. I have 0% APR for the first 6 months. That means that for 6 months, I only owe $800 correct? Also, if I only pay the minimum amount due on my credit card (I know I can pay much more...I'm just curious) during the first five months and the rest during the last month where I have 0% APR, my credit will not be negatively effected correct? In other words, as long as you pay the minimum balance every month, I will be fine right? Thank you for your help.

I know this may pose as a dumb question but I gotta start somewhere right? Thanks again!

Bank One Credit Card Application Process

I recently applied for a bank one credit card with a 0% APR on BT for one year and a 7.99% rate for purchases. Within a matter of hours, i realized that I did NOT want this card and called to have the application cancelled.
Customer service said NO, it was out of their hands. To make matters worse, I had asked for a $2000 balance transfer. I pray to the credit card gods that I get denied!
Any advice on how to stop this application??? Please help immediately!!!![/b]

It depends on how long they've had the application in process. once you have the card see if you can catch it before they do the tranfers and see if they can cancel it or keep calling to see if it is approved and when they say yes, ask them to cancel it.

No, you do NOT want your application to be denied. That would indicate a worse problem with your credit. Call again and if you still do not get satisfaction ask to speak with a supervisor or to the department that handles new applications. Of course you can cancel your application. The first person you spoke with was either uninformed or misinformed. Why do you not want the card? 0% balance transfer rate for a year sounds excellent to me. What's the problem?

I recieved this offer by mail from AT&T Universal. The offer is very tempting for me[although I do not have balances].. Any body having similar offers. I find that finance charge per month on 10K transfer would be just $8 per month. Isnt that crazy???

lowapr,

Thanks for your post and welcome to the board! These type offers are definitely the "juiciest" out there. Chase and Discover have had some 0% offers for the life of the transfer.

Does the ATT offer require you to make a new purchase(s) each month? Also any fees attached?

I don't believe discover does that. They force you to make 2 purchases a month to keep the balance at 0%. Well enough people must have got wise and made 2 VERY small purchases each month because i just recieved the same offer from discover but they require you to charge $50 per month to keep the 0%.

Not a very good deal now....

It's a bummer, but it's probably worth doing anyway if the numbers work out for your circumstances. Look at the first year, for example. Charge $50 per month as a purchase--your average purchase balance for the year will be about half of the $600 charge, or $300. If your Discover card purchase interest rate is 10%, you'll pay $30 in interest that first year. Meanwhile, if you transferred $5,000 you'd have that full sum available to you (virtually, except for the 2% monthly repayments required) for the entire year. So your cost for the balance transfer will be about .6%--much less than the alternatives I know and much less than the prime rate, which is now 5.25%. It's even less than the balance transfer fee most banks will charge you outright (typically $35-$75). Transfer more and it's even better.

And you have the flexibility to pay it off in full anytime if a better deal comes to you...

Interesting! A buddy of mine just called Discover and got the 0% for life deal and they told him outright that he could charge as little as $1 for the min purchases. Perhaps they have multiple offers out there. I would suggest just calling them and requesting the 0% for life deal and see if they tell you something different than $50.

Also, Discover allows you to have multiple cards in your name. My wife and I have 4 cards together and the terms, though very similar, are just a little different on each one. For instance, 2 of them (the very first one's we got) do NOT charge a minimum finance charge on the $1 purchase because somehow the 0% rate got extended to purchases as well!!! I just noticed that this month and plan to take full advantage of it... I am considering calling them to see if that 0% on purchases ever expires or if my monthly purchase extends that offer as well (could be I slipped through a crack somewhere), if so I very well could have a 0% revolving line of credit for a long, long time, way cool! Anyway, enough about me...

Best wishes!

Unless you plan to apply for car loan or mortgage, and worry that the lender may think you have too much credit, or tempt to charge up your credit card, I don't see why you have to worry about how many credit card you should have. I apply for every pre-approved credit card offer that I think it's worthy, e.g. 0% APR for balance transfer, etc.

I can't tell the terms on the offer which you received. Right one, Buy.com is offering a Visa with 0% APR for Purchases AND Balance Transfers for one year (12 months). It's a card issued through FirstUSA, which was bought by BankOne.

http://www.firstusa.com/cgi-bin/webcgi/webserve.cgi?ct=&card=9DKR&partner_dir_name=buydotcom_12_tiered_purch_bt&page_type=appterms
for more details.
Quote:
Annual Percentage Rate (APR) for purchases (including balance transfers, excluding overdraft advances)

A 0% fixed APR for the first 12 billing cycles following the opening of your account.

After that, 8.65% variable,110.65% variable or 14.65% variable, depending on our review of your application and credit history.

The GM Card®

You earn 5% on GM credit card purchases which is redeemable on the purchase or lease price of a new GM car, truck or SUV (excluding Saturn, Saab and HUMMER). There are no limits to the amount of Earnings you may acquire within an Account Year. Unless used or terminated under The GM Card Earnings and Redemption Allowance Program Rules, Earnings are valid for seven years from the end of the billing cycle in which they were earned. In the eighth year, GM Card Earnings accumulated from the first year will expire and GM Card Earnings accumulated in the eighth year will be added in their place, and so on. Expiration after seven years will occur month-by-month, so seven full years of Earnings are maintained. (These Earnings are in addition to most other discounts General Motors may offer, excluding The GM Supplier purchase programs, GMO, GMS and PEP, The GM Dealership Employee Purchase Program and The GM Supplier Purchase Program.) Upon being approved for The GM Card, you will earn 5% on your first two Balance Transfer Checks included in your Welcome Package if posted within 60 days of opening your Account. The 5% does not apply to cash advances or use of additional Balance Transfer Checks and Convenience Checks unless otherwise expressly disclosed. Use of The GM Card and The GM Platinum Card is subject to The GM Card Earnings and Redemption Allowance Program Rules which will be supplied to all new Cardmembers following receipt of their GM Card. GM and Household reserve the right to change the program rules, regulations and rewards.

**Vehicle Redemption Allowances

Had accounts in the past with this company - they are quick to give high credit limits, but they are preditory in nature. They will wait until you utilize your credit limit and then send you out a change in terms for higher interest rates or require that you close the account with a balance remaining.

*** Closing credit cards when you still have a balance is a credit score killer. And will make it harder for transferring to a new lender once this happens.

In the past, calling customer service has accomplished reducing the rates again (but each time, you loose a bit of what you had before) and it is a lot of maintenance with this company having to keep an eye on them.
