Citibank Credit Card Offer

Title: Citibank Credit Card Offer
Posted: Mon Dec 20, 2004 10:55 pm

I received a call this morning from a citibank customer service rep that offered me a chance to apply for a citibank credit card for students. I was wondering if they contact you if that means you have a better chance of getting the card. I've never received a call to solicit an application before. I didn't want to waste another inquiry, and I told the rep that I had applied with citi recently and was denied. I also told her that I had a recent bankruptcy and she told me that with this offer it may not matter as much. I don't really know if I believe her but she convinced me to apply anyway. Anyone have an opinion my scores according to pg are still pretty low (580-590s), and from everything I hear my actual scores from Fico are probably even lower. I have a bunch of IIB accounts, one collections account that I have made payment arrangement with, but they have not reflected this on my credit report, and one charge-off. Any opinions

One creditor can have different credit requirements for different credit card offers... so it may be that you can get approved for one, when you could not on another.

Though your scores are low, I honestly don't know how low they go on approval. I would of guessed low 600's.

I don't want to worry you, but just as a general caution for all--be suspicious when you get a call like that. Probably the person who called you really was from Citibank--but what if it was just a person pretending to be from Citibank? Be very careful about giving out SS#, dates of birth, and bank account information to anyone who calls you with a credit offer when you didn't initiate the call.

Good point. Didn't even think about that. I am entirely too naive. But I pulled PG this morning and I did indeed receive a new inquiry from citibank...so at least I don't have to worry about that.

My credit score is 661, according to mycreditinform.com
I had applied to Amex blue for students and MBNA couple of months(4-5) ago.
I wanna make sure I get approved before I do.
Any suggestions or comments would be welcome.

How long has the Capital One Card been open? Do you pay at least the minimum payment due on time every month to capital one?

I've had the cap on since Jan-2004. There is no monthly minimum payment.

Amex & MBNA are some of the hardest cards to get. If you are looking for another card I would first check your credit report to make sure you have a good payment history.

Then apply for cards @ a Local Credit Union or Bank. Also department store credit cards are fairly easy to obtain.

MBNA does have Credit Cards for college Students depending on what University you are attending.. Criteria is that you must have proof of enrollment, No delinquency,. ALso you do not want to have a lot of other revolving debt.. Usually the credit line is anywhere from 500.00 to 2k.. depending on what year you are in school.

Bank One Visa Incentives Credit Card Offer

Title: Bank One Visa Incentives Credit Card Offer
Posted: Mon Nov 29, 2004 9:30 am

In early 2003 Bank One's BP VISA offered 6% cash back on BP gas purchases and 2% on everything else for the first two billing cycles, then 3%/1% thereafter. The rebates are in the form of $20 gift cards at BP/Amoco stations. There is no annual fee and the typical grace period. My wife and I each signed up for the card and used them for the first two billing cycles, then put them away.
Late summer 2004 we each got a different offer to start using our cards again. My offer was a $20 BP Cash Card for each $500 in charges made in August and September, up to a maximum of 5 Cash Cards ($2500 in charges), in addition to the normal 3%/1% accrual. I charged over $2500 and indeed got the 5 Cash Cards promised. I have since switched to a better deal rewards card.
My wife's offer was double the rebate (2% vs 1%) on charges designated as dining, utilities, wireless services, home improvement, video rentals, groceries, dry cleaning, drug stores and movies/refreshments. Offer is good from July 1 2004 to June 30, 2005. We are still using this card, so their incentive plan worked on one of the two cards. I still have both letters announcing the incentives.

I had that card and thought the incentives were a good idea--until I tried using the BP $20 cards that arrived. I'm in California and there was only one BP station within 50 miles of me--and it refused to accept the card. Turned out that the independently-owned BP stations had the right to decline the card; only the corporate stations were obligated to accept them.

I wound up auctioning the cards off on eBay. Got $12 each for them at the time.
