Hi... I was looking to get a credit card and a few questions..

I've looked over
1. Citibank Diamond Preferred Rewards
2. Citibank Dividient Platinum Select
3. Citibank Diamond Preferred
4. Chase Visa Platinum

1 and 2 range somewehre like 10-11% APR (with rebates or rewards)
3 and 4 range somewhere like 8-9%

I usually just use my credit card for things like gas, minor purchases, etc... that'll probably go only like $200-300

any suggestions on which way to go?
thank you very much

Do you ever carry a balance? If not than APR is a moot point, if so than go with the lowest APR you can find. I like the Citi Dividend Platimum Select because it gives you cash money. Do the math to figure out how much you can expect back (5% groceries, gas, pharmacy.) You need to hit $50 of "rebate" before they'll cut you a check.

Personally from past experience I don't really like dealing with Citi as they will request info that most banks usually don't such as previous tax returns, etc. They aren't a bad bank or anything, just can be more of a hassle than you would expect. Cash back is nice, but read the fine print on all cash back or rebate cards before being sucked in to the offer, because why it sounds all good in turn it may not really be all good.

Sounds more like amex or chase. Citi did not ask me for any docs.

Citi Dividend. I never had any issue with them requesting income information, either. Actually, my experience is that they're really lenient with their lending especially to those just starting a credit history.

CCG, this sounds like it relates to your personal credit standing rather than a general practice. I've been dealing with CitiBank for more years than you've been alive and I've NEVER had a problem with them. Their CSRs are as courteous and well trained as anyone else in the industry.

What in the world could be wrong with getting a cash reward? Cash is cash. Unlike a credit card you can even spend it WITHOUT proper ID!! As long as you pay your statement in full during the grace period, the only thing that could possibly be wrong with cash back is not getting enough of it!

Cash back is great. You cant beat cash. I wont be able to use my airline miles this year but i have a friend who really wants to go to california to visit family but cant afford it. Since i wont be able to use the miles i will give them to him as a birthday present.Even with the annual fee it still served a useful purpose.

Cash would be better but it is often nice to have some kind of reward just in case you need it.

This is really simple. If you pay your balance in full every month, get a cash back card. If you know you will be carrying balances, get the low rate card.

Ira, I recently opened a Citi account, and I agree. The CSRs were very nice. My only complaint was the 20 minutes on the phone when I activated the card turning down all their offers.

Am I missing something here? Is there some kind of "reward" that you can't buy with cash? Isn't cash more liquid than airline miles, or points toward (fill in the blank space)?
