I want to apply for a Citi® Platinum Select® Card and before I do so it would be nice to know what CRA report Citibank pulls in Chicago, Illinois

I have to many inquries on my TU and that was one of the reasons BofA denied my application.

TU. Sad personal experience.

Everyone pulls TU in illinois! This is because, if I remember another post correctly, TU is based in IL so they corner the market here.

Activating Then Cancelling A Credit Card

Hi all..I m new member of this forum and came to know abt it thru Google. I recently got an offer form Chase Visa Platinum which said 0% APR till August 2006. Tempted by this offer I applied to it and got the card today. But durig activation call, while talking to an offshore customer representative, I saw that 0% APR is only till July'2005. So I had an altercation with them and then I cancelled the card immediately.

Now I dont know if it will reflect negatively on my credit profile or not ??
So far I have a good score.

Did you keep a copy of the offer? This is always a good idea. Also, do not ever get into a verbal shouting match with a CSR. You will always lose. If you're not getting what you think you deserve you have two choices; ask to speak with a supervisor, or even better, politely say thankyouverymuchgoodbye, hang up, wait five seconds, and call back. Your chances of getting the same CSR twice in a row are slim and none. There's a good chance you'll get someone who is more understanding and willing to help the second time around.

Also, I've found that CSRs are not always up on all the hundreds of offers that are out there. Sometimes they truly don't know anything about your offer. Give them a break. Be firm but polite. If you still don't get anywhere, ask to speak with someone in the customer retention department. Those are the folks who are paid to bend over backwards to make sure that card holders don't cancel. They are the ones who have the authority to extend offers, lower interest rates, raise limits, etc. within limits, of course. You might even try them now, even though you've expressed a desire to not continue with the card in question. Explain your situation calmly. As mentioned above, do not become confrontational. If you do, you will lose.

It will show, as to whether it will affect the score or not I do not know, as for CSR's some of them are stupid, I spoke to a supervisor one time and they lowered my APR. Also it would make no sense for the APR to be 0 for only 2 months, maybe the person meant until July of NEXT year! Mine was 6 months and that is the minimum they do....or maybe they meant it was valid until July meaning as long as you apply before July you'll get the 12 months

Ira,

What’s a “customer retention department”? Does every bankcard issuer have one? I mean if I say to CSR give me someone in your customer retention department, will he answer ‘huh’, who, what? As far as you know does Cap1 have a retention dept.?

You ever tried to get ahold of a super with this goat of a bank? They’ll put you 3 years on hold, then come back and say “all supers are busy, can one call you back?” I’m thinkin’ if I ask for this retention dept deal, it’ll be quicker? I’m trying to get my limit raised with this stingy Brit bank, but have yet to get ahold of a super.

Hey guys thanx for ur replies.

Ira,
Actually my call was transferred from Customer Care to Cancellation Department, where I talked to a guy. He offered me a lifetime APR of 9.99 %, which I declined. But you are right, I should have been more polite. Thx for ur advice. I am thinking to call them up again and talk to Customer Retention dept as u suggested.

CreditCardGuru,

I just checked my agreemet letter which came with the card It says 0% till 07/05 which is very bad considering my FICO score of 697. I think I deserve somehting better.
Actually I have got another offer from Household Bank, Mastercard (0% APR for 12 monts), but now I am a little bit scared to apply for that. This one chase card and its cancellation will surely affect my credit score.
What do u suggest ?

Thx

Cancellation=Retention Department

It's where the people are who try to convince you NOT to cancel your card, so the bank can retain your account.

I dislike Household, they usually market towards people with bad credit. I have just closed an account after recently activating it and the rep told me since I had not used it, that it will NOT show on my report.....hoping that clears it up for you. I got a pre-approval for something that seemed really good, but didn't get that offer, and I felt they were "rubbing it in my face" somehow with a very crappy limit, so I got pissed and cancelled it, as well as told them they took conservative lending a wee bit too far, they could be a little more liberal and it wouldn't hurt.

Credit Card Cash Award Terms

Post subject: Credit Card Cash Award Terms
Guest: kimkimkim

Could someone please explain the "tier levels" to me? For example: with the Chase Ultimate Cash Award Platinum card (see terms below)

1. When it says 0.50% for the first 2K then 3% for over 6K... does that mean that I won't actually earn the 3% until I spend over $6000 with the credit card? So in other words for the initial $5999 I'll early 1% or less?

2. I typically pay off my credit card in full twice a month. With this card it seems that you can earn more cash back if you leave at least 2 cents on the card. How will this affect me? If I leave that tiny balance does that allow them to charge me interest for that months charges or just interest on the 2 cents?

Thanks for your help!

For supermarket, gas station, drug store, and home improvement store purchases, the percentage calculation used to determine your Cash Award is based upon your annual level of net Purchases (“Tier Levels”) as follows: 0.50% for the first $2,000, 1.00% for $2,000.01 - $6,000 and 3.00% for net purchases in excess of $6,000.01. In addition, you’ll receive a 2.00% bonus for any billing cycle in which your Account has a revolving balance equal to or great than $0.01. For all other purchases, the percentage calculation used to determine your Cash Award is based upon your Tier Level as follows: 0.25% for the first $2,000, 0.50% for $2,000.01 - $6,000 and 1.50% for net purchases in excess of $6,000.01. In addition, you’ll receive a one half percent (.50%) bonus for any billing cycle in which your Account has a revolving balance.

Better check what is meant by "annual" purchases--if you got the card this month, would that mean May-December 2005 net purchases make up the annual period mentioned--or is that 12 months from the time you get the card, thus closing in May 2006?

Anyway, you're right--you only get the 3% on the portion of your annual net purchases ABOVE $6,000. Think of it like a tax bracket--it applies only to the portion above the lower bracket limit.

If you carry a balance you're charged interest on the AVERAGE DAILY BALANCE during the month, not on the few pennies you're actually not paying.

Credit Card Balance Transfer Offers

Post subject: Credit Card Balance Transfer OffersGuest: cin3944

I received a offer from BOA with my last bill. They increased my credit limit by 3 thousand dollars and also an invitation to BT any balances to them with a low varible rate of 5.5%APR (equal to prime &0%APR) for the life on transfer. I just kind of get leary with all these offers. I have a providian acct I would like to BT because there apr is outrageous. Has anyone else received this offer from BOA. The terms and conditions state that my account must be in good standing to stay with this rate which is the only stip I could find regarding why they would up my APR. Does this offer sould to good or should I just try and find another offer. I am not familiar with Prime APR &0.

Thanks

Yes, I received a similar offer(s). 0% for 6 months (through Oct. 2005 billing cycle) then something fixed after that for the life of the BT (4.9%? 7.9?). I don't recall the exact rate. I have nothing to transfer so I didn't read it that closely.

BoA sends these offers to me all the time. About every six months or so it includes a CLI. I just log into their site, click "request" increase" and voila. They increase my credit limit. They're quite nice about informing you about whether or not they will actually pull a bureau check. They've never pulled one yet.

If they ever give me a year @0% I'll take the "BT" as a cash advance (they explicitly state no fees even for cash) deposit that in an interest bearing account and make money on the free money.

Remember, prime rate is now 6%--not 5.5%--and that's what you'll be charged on the prime rate offer regardless of what's printed on the offer...

BigGimp77,

Greetings and welcome to the board! Are you going to college? If so, take a look here:

Otherwise, I would look at a secured card (assuming you don't have a credit record):

I had just received the amex gold card yesterday and I'm wondering if the amex blue might actually be a better card. Which one is easier to get and is it possible for me to switch from gold to blue?

Trade GOLD to BLUE...NO

One is "CHARGE" one is "CREDIT"

You can apply

yes im aware of which one is the charge and credit card. But I've read from other posts that chrage cards don't really do anything for credit ratings since it doesn't display a limit (which btw I heard the no preset CL is bogus cus they really do set a limit for you without telling you and once you've charged up to it, they tell you to pay some of it off before anymore usage) . So why should I pay $90 a year to keep a card that won't help with my credit and possibly even make me look like I have a high utilization. On the other hand, the blue is free and has a credit limit.
