Citi Dividend Platinum Select Master Card Approval

Yesterday I applied online for the CITI® DIVIDEND PLATINUM SELECT Master Card online. It stated that online applications have an instant reponse. Mine came back saying they will let me know by mail in 14 days, but after the application the online system did let me setup an online account login and password to view my account on the Citi website. Does this mean I will probably get approved, or does every online application allow online acount setup ? when I logged in to the online account it just says We've had a problem processing your request. A general system error has occurred. Please try your request again and let us know if this problem continues. The screen that has the error message looks identical to what my AT&T Universal Rewards card online account information page does, but with the error instead of account summary. When I applied for the AT&T card I got instant approval, and it let me sign up for online account access too, but I couldn't access it until the card came. I wanted this new card, because the AT&T Card (which I understand is pretty much the same card) is tied up with a great balance transfer offer. I was allowed to use a conv. check with no charge what so ever and get 0% interest for a year. I paid off the remaining 2,500 I owed GMAC. I just can't make any purchases with it until the $2500 (now $2,250) is paid off cause payments apply to the lower APR first. MY FICO is in the 720's. I filled in everything except the last name on home phone bill because it's in my stepfather's name and it didn't have a red star. I am pretty sure I did the same on the AT&T card that I got instant approval. I have read from a few people on this post that they sometimes ask for a utility bill before issuing this card. I was wondering if that is why the result is coming by mail. The cable, electic and home phone all are in his name. I do have Allstate auto insurance Verizon Wireless cellular phone service, GMAC (closed acct), BOA account statments and 4 major credit cards (one Citi (AT&T)) all in my name exclusively and associated with this address that I have been at for 2 years. With gas prices at there all-time high and even higher in the future I want this card since the AT&T is tied up for about the next 8 months. In your opinion, what do you think my response by mail will be?
Thanks so much and this board has been very informational and helpful.

I dont always get instant approval online but get approved. I recently applied for and was approved for an additional citi card. Until the card is approved and activated the online content on the website wont be fully active.

You DID get an instant response. It just wasn't the response you were looking for.

I went through this recently, so here's my take on your situation (the senior members can probably correct me where I'm off) -

I was approved all the way to knowing what my credit line was. No utility bill was needed, in my case. My FICO should be 700+, though I don't know for sure. Given that, I'd say they need to do some manual digging on you. So hold off on presuming you're approved.

There is a sync issue with their online system in so far as setting your account online prior to card receipt, and trying to update that info on receipt goes. Bottomline for me was that when my card arrived, instead of waiting for them to get synced up and staring at the "general system error", I had CS reset my acount after which I created a new account altogether (just had to use a diff userid) and I was able to get to my a/c details.

Unfortunately, I can't speculate on what their mail response would be. Hope that helps, somewhat.

Unfortunatley I doubt you'll be approved. Because you only have a $2500 limit on the card you already have with them, so (IMO) it's unlikely that they'll give you another card. If they wanted to do more business with you, they'd give you a higher credit limit. You have a high score but do you have long term credit usage? I'd like for you to prove me wrong, though. Let us know if you do get approved.

citi for some reason gives lower credit limits and then boosts after a short while.

Please don't spew such nonsense to appear coming off as legit. This is bogus and you know it.

You can have as many citi cards as your income and credit history can support. At one time, I had 6 cards, now down to 2.

Citi traditionally starts people at lower limits, but after 6 months, those increases come rapidly with excellent payment history.

So where is his increase, then? After he starts to get increases, wouldn't he then have enough of a credit history with Citi for them to give him BOTH increases and an additional card if he wants?

Maybe you should brush up on your basic understanding of the English language before attacking people.

Secondly, if he does get approved, I'd easily have been proven wrong, so no need to get your panties all in a bunch.

Actually my AT&T Universal Cash Rewards Card has a $4.100 credit limt, so it isn't maxed out. I just don't want to put purchases on it, because I will be charged the regular purchase intrest rate on them until my @2,500 original balance transfer is paid in full. I guess all I can really do is wait for the letter and hope for the best.

As always, thanks for the advice...

Especially if this is an increase from the credit line they gave you initially, then your chances of getting the new card are definitely higher.

I'm making my comments based on my own acct. I have a $4000 credit limit on the Citi Dividends card. I was not approved for a credit increase or the other AT&T card, but in your own specific case, you just might be. Good luck!

I just rec. another citi card. It appears that the best thing to do is register online once you receive the card and activate it. I did that this morning and had access to my account and ordered a balance transfer for a check in my name to be mailed.

I called today to the application processing center to inquire about my application status. They then said I needed to be transfered to another department. I assumed this meant something was wrong. Anyway, the lady at the other department said I was appoved for the Dividend Platinum Select Master card with a $3600 credit limit. She also said that I was appoved for a Citi Professional Card with a $8,500 (but I didn't apply for this one). She went over the details on the professional card, and it sounded good. She said I will be sent both, with all those details in the welcome package. She said keep one or both after receiving, because it was up to me. I asked if accepting the professional card would cause another new inquiry on my credit report. She said no, because they already did that for the dividend platinum card I origially applied for. I was just wondering if I did the right thing, by accepting the professional card in addition to the one I applied for. If not, I can cancel the card when it gets here. I read about the professional card on the citicard website and it seems like a good one too. I didn't notice any "catch" to it. Anybody familiar with the Citi Proffessional card? Thanks for your advice...
