here's the deal, emerge doesn't issue cards, that is the brand name used for acquired accounts. so there is no need to stay away from them, because you can't get an emerge card.

brittany:
i would suggest that you always get a confirmation number anytime you do a transaction with a credit card company as far as payments go, that would be common knowledge just like you keep track of al the checks you write to all your other bills. speaking to a supervisor would be a waste of time for you and them, and to come the point of irrationality. could you explain how they are shady so that the rest of the group could understand what you mean?

As one who pays off their credit card each month and hasn't had any problems with either of the two previous companies that have owned my account I have to tell you that if you post in support of Emergecard you apparently haven't dealt with Emergecard from a consumer's perspective. To assume that anyone having difficulty with Emergecard is a credit deadbeat is more that a little arrogant. I truly hope you never have to deal with incredibly intentionally poor customer service that I experienced with this company.

All those cards that promise to rebuild your credit and charge all those fees are usually crappy or either a scam. Before you sign up for anything check the BBB and Google to make sure there aren't any complaints or lawsuits about the company. Columbus B&T is a crappy bank, they offer prepaid MasterCards with crazy fees, so just for advise stay away from those prepaid MasterCards you see at gas stations as they are usually offered through Columbus B&T.

We ended up with Emerge by originally signing up for a circuit city card to by a refridgerator. The card fit out needs at the time. Circuit City sold to FNANB which sold to Fleet which sold to Emerge...time to get out!

I had an account with the First National Bank of Ohio. It had a $6,000 credit limit, was always in good standing--I used it for fee-free balance transfers, which it treated as purchases with a grace period. It had no balance when I suddenly got a letter saying it had been converted to an Emerge card. The Emerge site shows me my balance and gives me a form to pay that balance online but says nothing else and has no other features, not even a number to call Emerge.

I've never used it and I doubt I ever will. Why FNBO chose to sell my account to Emerge is unknown to me...

I had an excellent account with Fleet Bank , Over a $10,000 limit and was transffered to Emerge without my permission, By the now Bank of America (I had zero balance, they stated it was because of that ). Can anyone tell me where or why the Credit card companies can do this !!! My account with Fleet was NO Annual Fee , Yet Emerge had charged me $25.00 . They also stated at first I could not close the account till I had paid the fee off , even though as soon as I seen it on my bill I called the company and requested my account closed because of the fee. After 4 calls they stated I would get the fee waived. As of this posting the balance has not been removed when I call their number .

I am very upset and feel this practice of changing your account
without first notifying you is WRONG !! Something should be done !

I suspect Fleet's selling of accounts had to do with the same "financial mess" Fleet was in when BofA acquired them!!

Emerge is not a card issuer, it is the de facto card Compucredit sends to customers that it acquired in portfolio purchases.

I was 'sold' to emerge this month, from Fleet. My notice was that they were assigning a new account number, and by the way, raising my interest rate. They indicated that it was not due to my prior performance, which was flawless. If I wanted to know why, they gave an address to which I could write for an explanation.

My payment to Fleet was due prior to the change-over, and prior to my having received the letter from Emerge. It had been sent electronically on June 1 by my bank's bill paying service, as always. It was due on June 6.

My first indication of problems occurred when I attempted to make a purchase on June 11, using my new Emerge card. It was refused. For two days I was unable to reach anyone by phone (the message said all 'service' representatives were busy, and cut me off. Their web site was equally unfriendly, and refused to reveal any details.

When I finally was able to reach someone on the third day, I was informed that my account was past due, and therefore on 'credit hold.' My account had been charged interest for a balance I didn't owe, and a late fee. You must admit, they don't play around! If I was late, which I wasn't, they had it closed down.

After much stonewalling by them, I found out that Fleet had improperly cut off the transfer of funds from my bank on June 1. My bill payer had subsequently resubmitted it to Emerge, but mistakenly put my husband's CLOSED account (closed Jan 2004) on the submission. So they had my money, but in the wrong account.

They have refused to transfer it to the proper account. They have reported me as 'past-due' to the credit agencies. Some of you may know what it is like to get that corrected! My sterling credit rating has been tarnished, through a credit card company I didn't want and did not ask for.

Oh yes, I have spent about 25 hours of my work time, and still have no resolution. Emerge is adamant and unyielding. My bank's bill paying service has been most helpful, and cannot believe the attitude of these people.

I wanted to write a letter to complain, but the 'service' representative at Emerge refused to give me the president's name. Thanks to this website, I have found it.

It probably won't do you any good, but at least you can vent. Stuff up his mailbox!!

I am having the same issues since Emerge took over except that they will not give me my new account number and have given me 2 different addresses to send payment. They have not sent me any paperwork of any kind and have not responded to email. The telephone conversations with these folks are just horrible! They are rude and give you no information but try to get you to pay the mystery balance by phone for a fee. I have to have the new account number to pay online and it also has a fee. They will not tell me if they are honoring my old interest rate or if there are any new fees with this "new" account. One person said that they would be sending out a new card but I have yet to see anything from these people. Anyone who has had success getting a statement or even the new account number and real remit to address please post it!
