Credit Card Dispute With Rental Car Company

HELP! I have a Visa check card, and I got charged $200 for insurance on a rental car by Enterprise. I've had the car for almost a month because mine is in the shop. It was wrecked by a bad driver while it was parked, so his insurance co. is paying for the rental, but the optional collision insurance is about $18.50 a day. Well, after a week, I told two different employees over the phone to cancel the insurance; obviously, they did NOT, so now I'm being charged automatically against my will!
Can I dispute charges with a check card? How should I proceed? Keep in mind that the people at Enterprise have been quite rude to me already, and will probably deny that I told them to cancel the insurance.

Yes you can dispute the charges, a VISA check card is much like a credit card other than the balance is taken from your checking account directly. Call your bank's 1-800 number or step in a local branch and ask about disputing it. A lot of people think you can't dispute it with a check card, but since it is a VISA, it is under VISA's zero liability policy, however depending upon your bank you may be liable for the first 50 dollars. Whom do you bank with and I can see if I can pull up some information about what you could be liable for and possibly the procedure and how long it takes to get your money back.

YES!

dispute it with the your Bank directly- inform them that those further charges were unauthorized and that you'd like to stop further payment- also, tell your bank that you have tried to resolve the issue directly with Enterprise, however Ent disregard your request- and you are requesting for refund (hope your bank is like my citi, very helpful)

with my debit card (citbank), i simply call citibank CS to request for a stop payment.

you would need to provide the exact amount of recurring charge (if recurring) and the date the company is charging---

a difficult way to resolve this is by requesting for another checking account number, and if approved, close your present checking account to which they are currently charging you-

keep in mind also, that if this payment from Enterprise is obligatory or it is truly an obligation, then failure to pay may resort them to report you to the Credit bureau for delinquency or any other violation- you don't like that-

hoping you could resolve this issue sooner-

Thanks for the reply. I bank with Freedom Credit Union in Philly. Of course, they're closed for the holiday tomorrow, and my husband is stranded in Germany with very few Euros. Sometimes we live so hand-to-mouth that a $200 charge on a debit card takes a toll on us.

When I spoke to them on the phone, I told them to stop the insurance. That is my word against theirs. What if they deny that (a real probability)?

Just as with any other credit card companies, calling them on the phone won't preserve our legal rights-

So, write to them, requesting that they stop charges to your account-
Send them the letter with a CMRRR - in that way, they wouldn't be able to deny that they received the request from you to stop the charges-

i hope this will help-

I'm less concerned about future charges (after all, I'll only have the car another few days) than I am about the past ones. I mean, I will send them a letter (which will probably arrive after I've given the car back), but I don't know what will happen about the past ones. I calculated that they have overcharged me by $343.10. Do you think the bank will credit that money to me while they investigate my dispute?

some banks do give a a PROVISIONAL credit- it depends on the bank---
one time, my citi gave me immediate credit after i hang up the phone, at another time, i waited until they got their investigation started--

i had similar situation before- but my bank (citi) wanted me at least try resolving the issue first with the merchant--- so i needed some proofs-- like a dispute letter and what the bank's response--- banks need at least some documentation that showed that we have tried our best to settle the dispute with the merchant---

eve if the car would be returned soon--- the unauthorized charges are still there---i believe if the bank is willing to work with you the chances are-- you would still be able to get your money--- in my case i had 3 incidents with my citi- all authorized transaction-- however, it seemed before that i had a problem recognizing rip-off companies, when i found out later that they were, i called them up to dispute as unauthorized---

we also receive protection from unauthorzied/fraudulent charges when we use our DEBIT/CHECK cards--- the banks should be able to assist us in disputing legitimately fraudulent or unauthorized transaction when they notified of the such charges---

if banks fail to do so, they can be reported to the office of the comptroller (for national banks) or another agency for that matter---(i did not go to this extent)

you can call the bank and say "I noticed some unauthorized charges from ENTR and I want these investigated or disputed--- i have also tried my best to dispute the charges with the ENTR directly, however ENTR refused to listen---"

insist that these charges are "UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES"---and that you need their assistance to resolve the issues----remember we got only limited time to dispute these charges-- i believe about 60 or 90 days, and the bank usually are on our side because they wanna keep us as customers, they do business with us not with ENTR---

also, don't forget to seek assistance from Better Business Bureau-
I did this--after the merchant made me wait for 15 days for the refund which had never arrived on time- i reported them to BBB-- few days after,I received calls from the merchant informing me that they were calling me about the my communication with the better business bureaus ans asking me to call them back--- i never called back and i just noticed their email to BBB forwarded to me, that they were returning the charges--

go to the website http://lookup.bbb.org/ and search for the bureau in the area where the merchant is located-- click on the link to that bureau and send a complaint about that merchant--- don't forget to get the confirmation number of your complaint-- you will also be receiving later their decision thru your email, asking you to respond within a certain number of days- failure to do so, the case will be deemed resolved--

do everything you can to get the money back that rightfully belongs to you---
i wish you the best-
