Visa are generally the more popular cards as far as acceptance is concerned. But
there are many exceptions, and geography and industry standards can skew that
answer. While Visa is generally considered the most accepted card, I recently
read that California colleges are reducing Visa acceptance. Acceptance in
foreign countries varies, but many feel MasterCard is more predominantly
accepted abroad.

Overall, Visa is still regarded as the most accepted, followed by MasterCard, Discover and American Express. However, Discover Card has over 50 million card members and the Discover Network has more than 4 million merchant and cash access locations. That is nothing to sneeze at.
