I don't know too much about Chase. Why should I choose a Chase credit card?

If you are looking for a credit card company that offers plenty of security, you may want to consider applying for a Chase credit card. Chase, the largest credit card issuer in the United States, is the consumer and commercial banking division of JPMorgan Chase, which has more than $2 trillion in assets and a 200-year history.

Chase isn't some fly-by-night credit card company; they have 200,000 employees and operate in 60 different countries. With millions of customers, Chase knows the credit card business and is able to give some of the best credit card offers in the industry.

Finding the best credit card for you depends on the type of credit card you want as well as how you intend to pay off your balance. Chase offers a wide variety of credit cards, so you are likely to find at least one that meets your needs.

I heard something about Chase getting sued. Should I be concerned? >>

I heard something about Chase getting sued. Should I be concerned?

You are referring to the lawsuit involving a citizen names James McCoy, who claimed Chase raised interest rates without proper notification. Ultimately, the Supreme Court found in Chase's favor. You don't have to worry about a similar situation because the new credit card regulations that came out in 2009 require all credit card companies to send card holders a notice when interest rates change.

What are my options for Chase credit cards? >>

What are my options for Chase credit cards?

More than a dozen Chase credit cards are available, and they include the very smart Chase Blue Print tool.

Before deciding which Chase credit card to apply for, you'll need to think about how you will use the card. If you are looking for a new credit card in order to pay off credit card debt, you may want to consider:

  • A balance transfer credit card, which offers you zero or low interest for a specific period of time. You will also need to pay a balance transfer fee, typically at least 3 percent. Be sure to check to see if you can pay your balance in full before the introductory period ends and to be aware of the interest rate after the intro period is up. Slate from Chase currently offers zero percent APR for up to 15 months and comes with BluePrint, a payment plan that helps you pay down your balance faster and save money on interest payments.
  • A low interest credit card, which has a particularly low interest rate for the long-term. The low interest rate may apply to both a balance transfer and new purchases. Low interest credit cards are usually reserved for consumers with good or excellent credit. For example, the Chase Freedom credit card offers interest rates as low as 9.99 percent APR, along with cash back and other rewards.

If you intend to pay off your balance in full each month, you may want to consider some of the Chase credit cards with rewards:

  • Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, which gives you 50,000 bonus points if you spend $3,000 in the first three months, plus a 7 percent annual dividend on your points. You can earn double points for airfare and hotels booked through the Ultimate Rewards program and one point per dollar for all other purchases.
  • The Chase Freedom credit card offers 5 percent cash back on various categories of purchases that change periodically, such as gasoline, groceries, dining, home-improvement stores and department stores. You can also earn 1 percent cash back on all other purchases year round and up to 10 percent on purchases on select merchants through the Chase site.
  • Chase offers several co-branded credit cards with airlines such as United, Southwest and Continental, and hotels such as Marriott and Hyatt. You can earn three to five points per dollar spent with the companies that are co-branded with the credit card, as well as one or two points for other purchases. If you are a frequent flier looking for the best travel credit card, you may want to consider which airline you fly the most and compare how quickly you can earn points and how you can use them.

The Blue Print feature is different from others because it allows you to select your financing terms for each purchase. It also doesn't have any associated fees or penalties. Annual percentage rates vary by the type of Chase credit card and currently range from 11.24 percent to 22.99 percent. However, interest rates and credit card offers frequently change, so be sure to do your research.

If you are looking for a business credit card, Chase offers the Ink line of credit cards for small business owners.

There are several types of Ink business credit cards, each with slightly different rewards programs and features. For example, the Chase Ink Cash business card has no annual fee and gives 3 percent cash back on eligible restaurant, gas station, home improvement and office supply store purchases.

Which Chase credit card is best depending on what you are looking for in a card.  Chase offers a variety of cash back, rewards points, airline, balance transfer, student, and business credit cards.  So, if you are a student, then a Chase student credit card might be best for you.  On the other hand, if you rarely or never carry a balance and want cash back on purchases, then a Chase cash back card—like the Chase Freedom Card—might be best for you.
