Post subject: switching an old Chase card to freedom card

on the http://chase.com/freedom website, I could find a link "already a carmember?" and it says "call the number on your current card to switch your existing credit card to Chase Freedom"

My question is, does it meen closing my old one and opening a freedom account? or just switching without closing?
My old card is opened in 2003 and I don't want to lose one of my oldest accounts.

Why don't you call Chase and ask what it means?

Was reviewing the terms of the Freedom card today and was impressed that they offer a 1.25% redemption option. Any comments about this?

Now, that's interesting! I had a Chase Freedom card which they converted to the Chase PerfectCard. Now they have a new Freedom card with better rewards. Dangnabbit!

I think it is interesting that they have the 1.25% (200 pts -> $250) option. Although I have other cards with 5% cash back at the same categories, maybe I'll apply in late Jan when the 0% APR on purchases on my main card expires. If I can get 0% APR on purchases for 12 months, then I can get the 3% cash back on grocery/gas/restaurant and put the balance (above the minimum payment) into high yield savings.

The only thing that concerns me is that they repeatedly mention "fast food restaurants" but what is that exactly? Sure, Mickey Ds, Burger King, Wendy's and the like would qualify. But what about sit-down restaurants? Does Visa have a different merchant code for sit-down restaurants versus fast food restaurants?
