Post subject: Being Denied for a Secured Credit Card
Hi All! I applied for a Bank of America secured credit card but was denied. The reason was "Non-resident alien with no deposit relationship". I am from another country and here on a work visa. If I can't even get a secured card, what're my options? How long should I wait until I can apply again? Thanks

Do you have a social security number? You would need that at minimum to get a credit card.

The reason was that you are a non-resident alien with no deposit relationship. You can't do anything about the non-resident alien portion, but why not just open a savings account and a checking account and then try again? You'll have that "deposit relationship" at that time...

I have a social security number.
I opened a checking account the same time when I applied the secured credit card. I don't understand why.

Informartion about the deposit relationship possibly wasn't in the system yet when your card application was processed. I'd go back to the bank branch with the denial letter and show it to a bank officer, asking for an explanation. Opening a savings account should help as well.
