Bookseller Barnes & Noble is offering a $25 gift card to new cardholders who sign up for its co-branded MasterCard and make their first purchase with the card. The card also has perks for those who regularly shop at the bookstore or at its website.

To earn a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card, customers must apply for the Barnes & Noble MasterCard, be accepted, receive the credit card, and make a purchase with that card. The purchase can be made anywhere, not just at Barnes & Noble. The gift card will be mailed to the cardholder within four weeks of the purchase. Other perks of the card include:

  • Cash back: A 5 percent rebate on any purchases made at the store or website, excluding gift cards purchased through the company's corporate sales program.
  • Rewards: One point for every dollar spent using the card anywhere MasterCard is accepted, and a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card for each 2,500 points earned.
  • No annual fee.

The card has an APR of 13.99 percent or 24.99 percent, depending on the applicant's creditworthiness, and is currently offering zero percent introductory APR on balance transfers for the first 15 months after the account is opened, with a balance transfer fee of 3 percent or $5, whichever is greater. After the promotional term expires, the standard APR range will apply. Cash advances have a 25.24 percent variable APR, and the fee is 5 percent or $10, whichever is greater. Foreign transaction fees are 3 percent of each transaction in US dollars.

The 5 percent rebate is given as a statement credit each month purchases were made. Purchases made with the Barnes & Noble MasterCard are not eligible to earn points in the Barnes & Noble membership program.

The Barnes & Noble MasterCard is issued by Barclays BankDelaware.

About Our Ratings ×

Our editors rate credit cards objectively based on the features the credit card offers consumers, the fees and interest rates, and how a credit card compares with other cards in its category. Ratings vary by category, and the same card may receive a certain number of stars in one category and a higher or lower number in another.

The ratings are the expert opinion of our editors, and not influenced by any remuneration this site may receive from card issuers.
