Your FICO score is calculated using the information in your credit reports. The credit reports come from three bureaus: Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion.

FICO scores range from 300-850, the higher the better. According to MyFico.com, your credit score is calculated using this ratio: 35% payment history, 30% amounts owed, 15% length of credit history, 10% new credit, and 10% types of credit used.

The national median FICO score is currently about 711 based on consumer credit reports at Equifax. However, a study by the FINRA Investor Education Foundation showed that more than 52 percent who have checked their FICO scores in the past 12 months had credit scores above 720.
