Cast members from the hit Fox television series Glee joined forces with American Express cardmembers to add holiday cheer to the lives of Los Angeles area elementary schoolchildren during December. The credit card issuer surprised ten contest winners and their guests with the opportunity to volunteer alongside the TV stars during a special event held at the Paramount lot where Glee is filmed.

Volunteer winners helped Matthew Morrison, Jayma Mays, Cory Monteith, and other series regulars build homemade musical instruments with local children selected through partnership with the Education Through Music nonprofit organization. Education Through Music promotes music education programs at disadvantaged schools to help improve students' social skills and academic achievement.

The cardmembers also helped present officials from Education Through Music with a $100,000 grant on behalf of the Members Project, American Express' collaborative charitable giving program. The contest and volunteer event represented the culmination of a major media campaign using Glee characters as metaphors for community involvement. Actors from the series appeared in American Express commercials promoting volunteerism throughout the fall television season.
