My credit is perfect, all balances have been paid off monthly for over 20 years and I made just over $200,000 last year. I think I could get some serious credit card limits if I choose to, but I want to go about this the right way if I go this route." Click to Read Replies

Board Monitor, Curtis Arnold, posts, Tips on Accepting Credit Card Payments for Your Business! Following is a great article that appeared recently on abs-cbnnews.com entitled "Merchants pay for right to use credit cards": The challenges that face business start-ups are familiar enough: scraping together start-up capital, hiring talent, fighting government red tape, recruiting customers. But pity small retail shops. For them, and other small businesses that rely on foot traffic or the Internet, a big frustration is getting a credit-card terminal up and running. It is not a simple task. MasterCard and Visa require small businesses to enroll through intermediaries like payment processors, financial institutions or independent sales organizations, commonly referred to as ISOs, which solicit business through telemarketing and even door-to-door agents. As new business owners soon learn...
creditbuilder asks, "Would it be possible for me to get them to report it, or to get citi to pull a different report?"
Credit Expert, Polonius, replies, "Cap1 reports both my cards to all three bureaus. Better check with Cap1 to see what the problem is. (It doesn't report the credit limits for any account, though--is that what you're saying? You can't do anything about that.)"
hesiden asks, "I've been doing some casual reading on the various topics and I have a couple of questions. Does asking for credit limit increase hurt your FICO score? I see the benifit would be to decrease your utilization. Are there any disadvantages? One of the topics suggested writing a letter to your creditor asking if they would remove a late payment on your credit history. I guess it can't hurt to ask, but does it happen very often?"
NightStar, Board Monitor, answers, "On your first question, if you have little or no credit, or worse negative listings on the credit report, the worst that can happen is they have to pull a credit report, causing an inquiry (which does affect the credit score) and decline you. So if you have issues with the credit, try to work on the problem areas first before making such request and limit possible decline. Yes, there are plenty of people that accomplish obtaining good will from the creditors, that they will remove late listings, or forgive them in a re-aging policy of theirs. The credit card companies are encouraged to assist consumers on one time deals to for give lates should consumer meet their terms of bringing accounts back current. A common site used for these request is www.planetfeedback.com - they have key contact names and addresses for various companies, where you might get higher up then just writing in request to customer service or billing department.. there should be many reviews there by consumers about various companies that they had good response from for you to look at before hand."
Nathan replies, "Just to give you a quick tip that I'm slowly learning, when asking for a credit line increase, I believe all companies (if not all, then most) will, or probably have to inform you that they will need pull a new CBR, leaving you with a hard inquiry. I recently asked BofA for a $4,000 increase. Probably more of a leap than was warranted, but you never know. The rep told me they would need to pull one of the major three bureaus, so me, being as persistent as I can be sometimes, tried very hard to gather which one. The rep (in the credit department) got annoyed with me and implied that I would be approved no matter what, and I was! I've been using PG, so I checked the next day and no inquiry on either of the three. Maybe they did a soft pull, I'm not certain, but it's useful to know which company is doing what before hand. I kind of think a sticky regarding CLI's would be a good idea. It would really help to see which companies are generous, and which are not. The approval/details sticky was such a great idea. Any opinions? On the flip side, a few days after, I called FUSA and asked them for a CLI and was declined. I'm waiting for the reason in the mail. But they did pull a new Experian. I've had similar situations in the past few years, and I think we could all benefit from learning from each other experiences."

Review: I started out as an Amex Rewards Gold Card member in January of 2003 after a pre-approved notice was sent to me in the mail. Had the Gold Card for a total of 8 mnths, and because of my high monthly spending, ($2000+) was upgraded to the Platinum Card. The first thing that I took note of, and have come to appreciate, is the professional, helpful, courteous Customer Service Reps; Always ready and willing to answer any question and fulfill almost any requests. I have used the Platinum Concierge Service several times in the past 2 years and have always been pleased with the end result. For my mom's birthday, I called Amex and requested that a basket of Elizabeth Taylor products (ie; White Diamonds, Gardenia, lotions, etc.) be sent to her at work. The Rep assured me that everything would be taken care of and that she would receive the gift basket before the end of the school day. Somewhere along the lines the request was messed up. The vendor that Amex had used to get the products for the basket got the wrong stuff. The Rep contacted me immediately with the status of the order and suggested alternate solutions. To make a long story short, Amex Called Bloomingdales in NY, NY and had them prepare a basket with a mixture of the products from Origins. Amex then proceeded to have a personal car service pick the basket up from Bloomingdales (free of charge to me) and bring it to my home; I live in Brooklyn. Needless to say that my mother was very happy with her gift basket and was amazed that all of this was put together by Amex. Used Pltnm Trvl Srvs to book travel reservations to New Orleans and thought that everything had went through. 1 week before my travel date I contacted Amex to confirm my reservations and was told that something had happened with my reservation and that it was kicked out of the hotels computer. Amex quickly contacted the hotel in New Orleans, negotiated with the hotel,(which was completely booked) and somehow had arranged for me to stay in a suite, but paying the same rate,(which was significantly lower than the rate at this point in time) that I had originally been given when I first made the reservation. Needless to say that if it weren't for Amex, I would have arrived in New Orleans and realized that I had no hotel room waiting for me. It can't get any better than this... Or can it, (Centurion?). I love this card, love the reaction from cashiers and on-looking customers when using it, and most importantly, I respect American Express for the way that they handle and treat their most valued clients. I refer to my myself as a cliet of Amex because I have forged a very positive financial relationship with this company. They're not just a card company, their a business who's made it their business to take care of their select group of Card Members, (I can only speak for Platinum Charge Card Members). It's definately worth the annual fee... Treatment from Cust Srvc Reps is standard setting... NO SPENDING LIMIT... Practically limitless abilities...Oh... And by the way, I'm only 23 yrs old.

Review: I've had my card for almost 5 yr. Last yr. I used it to purchase my wife (then fiance) an engagement ring. everything went through fine and i was approved and purchased the ring. On the next months statement they informed me that my account was maxed out. I didn't thing much of it after all I did just make a big purchase, so i went on making payments, always over the minimum, to make sure i paid the account off in full before we were married and might have needed it. Eight months after the purchase my balance was down to below a thousand, and my so called LIMIT was well above that, so we went to purchase a new living room suit. The card was denied and i called First Financial to find out why. All they could tell me was that I was over my limit and I knew that i wasn't. After a three hr. run around i finally told them to just cancel the account. They did but they said they would have to charge me a service fee each month until the balance was paid. I told them they could inform my lawyer of it. I hired an attorney and upon his first interview with First Financail They settled with waiving the remaining balance and closing the account. Yea it cost me more than the balance in attorney fees but i refused to pay this so called financail institute for a card that i wasn't, no couldn't, use due to their stupidity

Review: dont even go there. the best thing i would say is to stay away from any promotions and dont even apply. my husband and i were going to get a washer and dryer so we sat and discussed our options. there on the table was where they had the ad for next week for 6 months no interest. which we all know that means same as cash. we then decided to come back the next day so we could get the prom. and the saler said they would let us go ahead and have the prom now. we therefore purchased a washer and dryer. need to say will pay off card w/ lowes asap and never have another one with them it has been an on going head ache. we are very disappointed in lowes credit card dept. you go in to ask for a charge history on your card and lowes can not help you, you have to call the credit card dept. then another thing that think is wrong is they charge $10.00 over the phone payment it does not pay in anyway to have a lowes card. please for your on reasons stay away from lowes charge cause when it comes to their charge card lowes also known for lowes stands for the lowest prices around HA not in the long run of it.

Review: We have been customers at Sears for nearly 30 years. They have now decided to charge you just to use your card. We have ALWAYS paid off our balance due every month. Supposedly the new year brought additional Finance charges to our account even though we paid our account in full. January's bill included a $25.00 charge for the "rewards Participation Fee" which we did not wish to participate in. I called and was advised to deduct the $25.00 from my payment, and pay the remainder of the bill. NO WONDER!! I paid my bill by electronic bank-payment on the due date of Feb. 05. February's bill arrived.......they have now added Finance charges for the $25.00. We purchased a microwave for $171.00 in January and just the first week of February we purchased new tires for our truck for $600.00. I called Customer service and was told the following........If you wait until the DUE date on your invoice, there will be finance charges on the total amount outstanding on your bill.....starting from the date they print your bill. SO....we purchased the $600.00 tire on Feb. 07...posted to our bill, Feb.08....the bill was supposedly printed Feb. 10th. The US Postoffice delivered my bill on Saturday, Feb 19. That means I didn't have my bill in-hand to pay until Saturday. BUT the due date is actually March 09. The microwave was purchased Jan.16 and posted Jan,17........just think how much finance charge will be added to my next statement on these two items because they are charging the finance charge based on the "PRINTING DATE" of the bill. I have NEVER used any credit card that has charged a yearly fee for the use of their card. Likewise, I will no longer use my Sears card....they are actually charging me for the use of my card. As much as we usually spend at Sears on a yearly basis, we would probably be better off paying a $25.00 fee for the card up front..instead of this "Hidden" charge based on what I actually purchase at Sears. Can you believe a store that charges you more because you buy more from them.????? We have a very large Credit Line with Sears............we will NOT be purchasing anything else EVER from them. vis credit card or CASH. They don't deserve making any more money from us.......we have been very loyal to Sears.....They are being VERY UNFAIR to their best customers........Why should we pay for "Using the card"......Our business will go somewher else!

Review: I have several cards and I do favor the h-d high performance card because I can use it to buy my accessories. I can't use it any where else. but when you look at what my interest was @ 8.9% that kind of shoots the benifits in the rear @ 10.2% might as well say that were paying for our own points when you include the 1.3% increase. but fortunately I never carry a balance on any credit card, I pay them off each and every month so in essence I have a 0% interest,so in that respectI'm ahead of the game by not paying a minimum required payment that's what they like.
Best Feature: if you like to buy harley accessories then it's great because you have no other choice

Review: I have only had my Bank of America check card for a short while now. Out of all the checking cards, or credit cards that I have held, this bank does a much better job for the customer. My card came to my house shortly after I opened the account, and it came with my picture on it. I love this feature, because now I don't have to have my lisence handy everytime I need to use my card....my identification is on the front. I also love the fact that I received an extra keychain credit card. Talk about convienent. As a woman I hated carring a purse everywhere I go, because I might need my check card. Well, with the handy keychain card, all you'll need are you keys. These are just a few reasons why Bank of America beats the mold! The only way you'll ever really find out is to try them yourself!
Best Feature: It's convienient ans it's safe. Since my picture is on the front, no fraud worries.
Worst Feature: I take it everywhere and end up spending too much money. What's a girl to do?
