A Guest asks, "How much debt is everyone in? I'm in
$38,000 debt. All credit card debt. I don't own a home, I rent."
Member, Kitten replies, "I'm in 4K in debt on credit cards--down from 10K
in May. $0 auto. $0 home."
Reply from Guest #685, "20,000 for vehicle @ 9.9%; 40,000 for mortgage @ 5.9%;
and 500.00 on cards"
A Guest inquires, "Hi Everyone, On several old and new
credit cards accounts that I have the credit high is higher than the credit limit
should I dispute this? And on others there is an amount in the high credit column,
but nothing in the credit limit column should I dispute this? Lastly, I have done
everything I know to do to improve my credit score. Do you have any tips? I have
disputed any and everything negative which has been a huge help. Now all that I
have left are 4 tax liens, 1civil judgement, 2 open credit card in good standing,
a paid in full student loan, 3 closed credit cards in good standing, a mortgage
with 6 late pays, and lastly no enquiries. Now with all of that said what do you
think that I should do next. Thank You all In advance for your advice. Thank You"
Reply from Senior Member, Ira, "Sounds like you have an awful lot going on.
How old are all these negative items? I'm not sure about when they'll fall off your
credit report. Sticking to your question, did you ever go over your limit on the
cards in question? That 's the only reason I can think of where your high credit
would exceed your credit limit. You'd have been hit with over limit penalties every
time it happened."
Guest answers, "My this really is complicated. I went over because I combined
two cards I had from Capitol One and Capitol One did not post my payment prior to
doing this, but I have spoken with Capitol One and they are telling me they will
correct this. And I was not charged any penalties. What has me looking at credit
highs is that I was reading some information from FICO frenzy, and it spoke about
how the bureaus list the most owed on the account. So, if you do not pay off your
balance before the company reports to the bureaus for just one month that balance
will stick with you and pull your score down. Oh! And my negatives will not fall
off until 2007. Thank You again!"
Another Guest asks, "Okay Just curious. We all know Amex has
that black card, and that there is Carte Blanche... Visa now has a "Signature" and
"Infinite" card, thier top end cards and Mastercard has a "World Mastercard" as
thier high end card... How do you think the rather recent visa and mastercard high
end cards stack up against the classics like Amex Black and Carte Blache?"
nativechild48, Credit Expert, replies,"IMO high end cards mean the very same
thing....A card with low interest fees and No Annual fee as well. Amex does have
some benefits but not exclusive and as prestigious as they use to be. Blue and all
of their other non charge cards are good but their Centurion bank is not covered by
the FDIC. Also you are paying for the Stockholders with these excessive fees."

Review: While the fees they
charge are no longer hidden they are still obscure in my personal views ut I
would still give it a middle rating because BofA will usually work things out
with you at the expense of your time.

Home Depot Credit Card

Review: I think overall THD is a great store, but
with the actually credit card there is some confusion especailly when
monogram is handling the accounts, but in august citibank took over home
depot credit so I believe in the long run people will be more satisfied.
Monogram's non-deffered billing was very confusing and I agree with the
people that have posted on this forum about how unfair payments are applied
to the account. However, with the new bank things are applied different and
the account makes more sense. I would recommend to anyone to contact customer
service is a payment is misapplied to the wrong promo to be corrected. That
is why they are there.
Best Feature: 12 months SAC, 6 mth promo offeres
Worst Feature: Confusing Billing practices from MCCBG

Review: Pay monthly on time for all new purchases
that are not are not on the allegedly deferred promotional offers. However,
am billed daily financial charges at 21% on balances that I cannot figure
out how they were derived when I pay monthly in full for all new purchases.
I have never made one late payment. I don't have this problem with any other
credit cards--just HD. I don't understand why this is happening. If matter
gets resolved, I will change rating.
Best Feature: At this time uncertain

Capital One Student Card (college students)

Review: This is my first credit card ever, I had
got it in Dec 2000 with initial limit of $200 and 0% intr. rate. I was always
paying ontime and all balance in full that way I always knew how much I can
afford. I've had this card for 4 years now, now I had like six other cards
with much lower rates. My credit limit was increased from 200 to 400 to 800
to 1200 and then I received offer to transfer ballace to increase limit so I
did and got my limit to $3100, and of course paid it off right away. I will
recommend this card for begginers, it's perfect to establish credit and even
gives you all kind of usable info about credit how to use it right. Customer
service is very friendly called them only once though. The only bad feature
is your rate remains the same even if you make all payments ontime - they
don't lower it, but all the rest is O.K. as for the first card. N.S.

Review: The good thing about this card is that they
initially started me at a low limit. Unfortunately, being a student I
eventually was not even able to meet the low monthly payment. After this
occurred I was immediately charged a large amount of fees for the overlimit
portion and the past due fee. This snowballing effect led the balance to
become almost four times as much as the limit allowed. I would have rather
the bill be sent to collections rather than let the balance get that out of
control. Furthermore, the interest rate on this card was much higher than any
other card I have. I made repeated attempts to contact the company and work
out an arrangement that would benefit both parties, however they were never
willing to work with me. Overall I would not use Capital One for any financial
services in the future
Best Feature: starts the customer at a low limit
Worst Feature: too many fees

UmbrellaAIR Rewards Platinum Visa® Card

Review: They won't increase your credit limit. So get what
you can when you start. They have improved their customer service hours sort
of. Umbrella bank itself doesn't handle it anymore, some other company does
their 24 hour service. They haven't improved on when you get your credit back
when you pay them. It can take up to 5 days from when your payment hit. I pay
mine off every month, but have to wait if I want to use it for a high end
purchase due to this and their no credit limit increase policy.
Best Feature: Most points you can earn per month.
Worst Feature: No credit limit increase
Overall Rating: 4
Benefit Rating: 4.5
Service Rating: 3

Review: Avoid this bank and its UmbrellaAir Platinum
card like the plague. They give you a 5000. CL and will not raise it.
Their Customer Service has limited hours, their automated acct info is
frequently down. You can do better, much better. When you pay your bill,
they do not release your line until they feel like it, even when you pay
direct from your UmbrellaBank checking account. Very low class operation.
Best Feature: 9.9%
Worst Feature: A long time to make credit available after EFT payment, lousy CS
