HOT TOPICS...PayPass hopes to score with touchless credit cards
Source: SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER
A few Seahawks fans, reluctant to miss precious seconds of Monday night's game while grabbing a dog and a brew, for the first time were able to pay for their snacks just by waving a newfangled credit card in front of a sensor.
If it seems like yet another newfangled way to risk high-tech theft, the experts say don't worry. Fans were taking no financial risk by beaming their account information through a few inches of air, rather
than swiping a card conventionally or handing it to a clerk.

I havent done this but will consider. For each issuer, do they have a problem combining different cards. For example, will chase combine an amazon.com visa with some other chase card. Or are people targeting the exact same card type for combining. Also, are people doing this mainly because of the bt fee cap of 50-75 is much easier to deal with a higher limit on 1 card. Thanks.
Ira
, Credit Expert, responds,
Rather than combine cards, you can ask that a portion of your available credit be transferred from card A to card B. For instance, say you have two cards from the same issuer, each with a $5,000.00 limit. If card A had a special offer that you wanted to take advantage of you could transfer, say, $4,800.00 from card B to card A. By doing this you retain the same number of cards - a plus on your credit score - and allow yourself to do whatever you want with a higher limit card.
Ira asks,
Thanks to the stratospheric gasline prices I found an unpublicized limit in my Citibank Platinum Rewards Card.
It will not allow individual gasoline purchases of more than $50.00! The gas pump simply shut down at
$50.00 and said "purchase limit." If gas prices weren't so high I would never have known about this.
damnage answers,
Sometimes it's a limit set on the card, in which case you should be able to call the issuer and get that changed. Sometimes it's actually the station. We have Wright Fleet cards for our company vehicles and occasionally I run into some odd limits when attempting to fill our company van. The thing has a 35 gallon tank so it takes about $100 to fill it these days. I just got shut off at a BP Amoco at $65.00. I just swiped the thing again and finished filling it. Kind of weird.
randyd answers,
I have found that my debit card is set to a limit of $35 to pay at the pump. I was told by the bank it was a security feature to prevent fraud. Swiping it again at same location does not always work either. It all depends on the credit card processing company and their fraud prevention rules. only solution i was given was to go inside and pay.

ok I guess
the card is just ok. apr is a little on the high side and and customer serive is quick to give credit line increases. The card doesn't have the web site on it like all other cards. This makes it very difficult to reach anyone if you have no phone access.

Review: Great Card
I've been a Amex cardholder since 1996. Started with the green, progressed to gold and now platinum. The best thing about this card would have to be the concierge service. Because of my busy work schedule, i barely have time to plan birthdays or anniversaries. Just a year ago, we were celebrating my son's 13th birthday. I was seriously pressed for time due to a deadline at work and had absolutely nothing planned for his birthday. I contacted American Express to see if they had any types of tickets available for ANYTHING that particular night. What they found was 2 extremely sold out tickets to see the SF Giants play at SBC park. This was the game that Barry Bonds hit his historic 700th Homerun. I was extremely floored at the fact that these tickets where two rows behind home base and that tickets were sold out months in advance. Not only did American Express give my son and I the chance to see history, they also brought him a gift basket full of toys and sports equipment during the middle of the game! This was one of the many experiences that keep me a happy, loyal Amex customer.

Review: Company so bad it borders on criminal
Horrible companny. Was switched to them, without my knowledge or consent, by First National Omaha. When I discovered I'd been switched, I phoned eMerge to do a direct transfer from my checking account to pay my balance and close the account. Months later I received a bill from them, with numerous late fees and a fee for an insufficient funds check written in the amount of $66.00. Apparently the account was not closed, as I had been assured it would be, and now I was getting late fees for bills I'd never received, plus an NSF fee for a check I'd NEVER sent. I sent them a letter explaining the situation, and 6 weeks later when I'd received no response, called them. You can't get through their phone system to complain, so I lied and said I'd lost my card in order to get to talk to a customer service rep. She was no help. Insisted that I'd sent an NSF check, removed only one late fee, and said there was nothing that could be done to write my credit rating. In variious fees, I owed over $100 on an account that I was told was closed. Unbelievably bad company. If you get switched to them, close the account immediately, and pray that they've actually closed it.
Best Feature: NO good services
Worst Feature: Numerous, including improper fees, non-existant customer service. Bad beyond belief.

Review: RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS AND UNFAIR LATE FEES
I received my first bill while I was on vacation. When I returned, since the bill was due the next day, I tried to pay by phone, but there is a $15.00 charge to do so. I called customer service the next morning and I was told by an extreemely rude woman that I should have paid by phone because now it was going to cost me a $29.00 late fee. I told her that I thought they could cut me a little slack since it was my first bill and this situation was out of my control. I had no luck and closed my account. AAA PLATINUM PLUS VISA is a RIP-OFF!!!!

Review: Not Convenient
I find this card very inconvenient because you cant make a payment in the store. In addition, their website isn't the best to navigate if you need to make online payments. I, personally think the easiest method to pay bills is either online or the ability to make a payment in the store. "Snail mail" is definately not my idea of convienient.

Review: Wow watch the interest fees.
I have had a sears mastercard for over 5 years now, and all of a sudden they explain to me they are going to help me pay off my balance quicker.
You have to be kidding, thats the new policy(its on their website). My payment is up by $70.00 a month, with no warning, apparently I didn't opt out of this WONDERFUL service. I will find a another card to transfer to and close my account. Sears has been a favorite store of mine for 30 years, but no more. I wish I could find out if this prctice of "hellping" is legal?

Review: This card is useless... and so is Bank of America!
I got this card when my NationsBank Visa got bought out by Bank of America. This was after NationsBank bought out my original Boatmen's Bank Visa. I tried to convert my BOA Classic to a different card and they wanted to charge me a $25 annual fee for the Platinum. Well, if you look on their website their is no annual fee for that card! They tried to rip me off! Also, they have never, and I mean NEVER given me a credit limit increase unless my other credit card (CitiBank) has given me an increase. What, they don't trust me with money?!?!? I've NEVER paid late!
Best Feature: It's a credit card.
